Replacing CB Joints...
Replacing CB Joints...
I was wondering if anyone has done this before to their car?? I have a 97 and my right front one got stuck in some mudd a bit ago and now I have the clicking sound going on...Not sure yet if it's a bearing, torn boot, or if I have to just replace the joints but has anyone done this??
I'm calling around to get prices but I would much rather do it myself...If anyone has done it before then please give your experiences and helpful hints...

hint --- it's a CV joint --- hint
CV joint implies constant velocity joint.
As you are guessing, you'll have to inspect the half-shaft and CV joint. This happened to me once too in my Ingetra. I ended up with a new half shaft when all was said and done. Didn't do it myself.

LoL, I replaced my CV boot just last week!!!! I had to take the whole joint out just to put the damn boot on!!! But it wasnt that hard though. The install was pretty easy! The hardest part was getting everything to line up right. But other than that it should be a piece of cake. (By the way I have a 97 3.0)

It cost me about 10 bucks for the boot itself! The installation is where they get you!

Hey rOdxx: are you the one with the Racing hart C3's? I know katana has them or had them but are you the other person with them? If so do you have any pics of your car?
the boot is just another seal for the bearings as the bearings themselfs are seald but the boot helps keep the dust and road grime out , i too have broken boots ! i saw this when i replaced the front break lines on my car.

The boot also holds the grease in there. And without the grease your bearings can get really hot and eventually get fucked up!

Well, I'm going to call around and get some prices on the parts themselves...Then I'll also call to see how much they will charge for install but I would RATHER do it myself...No need to spend a couple extra hundred dollars on a job I can do myself...
Also, since it's clicking...I don't think it's the boot but rather a bearing...If that's the case then the installation just got ten times harder then just a simple boot repair...

Yeah, if it's clicking then it means one of the ball bearings is messed up!
Another thing is that it's actually easier to replace the whole shaft then it is to replace a boot. Replacing a boot is ten times harder because you still have to take the shaft out and then put the boot on it. And putting the boot on is no easy task because you need to remove a lot more things in order to get it in place!!!

Dude, you just answered your own question!
You could also replace the actual bearings but why bother! In fact I dont even think they will sell the bearings by themselves.
Ok then...Replace entire shaft...
Any Napa, Discount Auto Parts, or any retail Auto Shop period would sell it correct??
Or should I just go to the Honda or Acura dealership and buy it from them...I don't mind spending 80 bucks on it and doing it myself...Hell, it's alot cheaper then having a repair shop do it and jacking up the price 300% if it's easy enough for me to do it...
Also, should I go out and buy a manual or is there a good place to get the info I need online..??
thx guys
