removing/retinting rear window

I have bubbling that is bordering on annoying and needless to say looks like crap. I wanted to get some opinions on how to go about removing this or should I have it done?

I have heard lots of people warn about having tint removed because they scrape your defrost wires off with the tint! So I'm retentive enough to try to remove the tint myself. Anyone done this themselves or had an issue with bubbling tint?

All comments are appreciated!

given the fact it's the back window, have it done. Trust me. Between the curvature and the defroster, it's a pain.

any recommended tint places?

The problem is if I trust someone to do it and they scrape up and destroy my defrosters....any advice on who to use?

I was only saying that I would remove the tint - not tint it myself...i would trust someone to tint it

I would still have someone do it. Show them the defroster works before they tint and make sure it works after they tint

I believe there is a way to remove the tint w/ some kind of cleaner/chemical that won't have to entail scraping at the defrost lines. One tint place I went to I overheard him talking on the phone to someone about removing rear windshield tint. So there is a way to save the defrost. Call around and ask different tint places.

if you do it yourself... just be careful.
the winter is near.... your defrosters will be needed.

before i sold my nissan.... i had a shop remove my all
my tints.
they recommend that you have that done in warm to hot
weather...

if it's cold out.... they will have a difficult time removing the
tint.... possibly resulting in damaged rear defrosters.

and they can't guarantee not to damage them.

go see what the professionals have to say....
luckily i had it done in 80 degree weather..... they baked
my windows under the sun, allowing the chemicals to soak.

good luck!

You don't need to scrape all of the residue off of the window.

When you remove the tint, use a heat gun or a hair drier to heat up the window which in turn heats up the adhesive. Then, once its hot, slowly peel back the tint film continuing to use the heat gun. It help to have someone heat the outside of the window as you peel it off. It you do it right, the majority, if not all of the residue should peel off with the tint film. If you get a lot of residue still on the window, use some goo gone and a rag to wipe it off.

There's no scraping involved.

NEVER EVER EVER used rear window defroster in any vehicle i have ever driven. Why would I lie? Maybe if i just got in the car and drove in the winter, but I always let it run for at least 10mins get it all nice and toasty. by the time i brush the snow off its good to go. none of my friends use theirs either we all thought it would mess up the tint. sorry i just have had the need to use it.

When I took the tint off my car all I did was peel it off. For some reason most of it came off without no problems. I just took it nice and slow, making sure I didnt pull off the defroster. Then to remove all the glue and adhesive that was left on the window, all I did was use Windex. I just covered the speakers and carpet and sprayed Windex all over the glass. I let it sit for awhile and the Windex disolved the glue. Then all I had to do is wipe it away. I dont know if this will work for you, but it sure as hell worked for me and saved me a bunch of time.

Note: (My tint was kinda old and was also bubbling all over)

Another thing. If you use a heat gun make sure you dont burn anything while heating the window. One of my friends took the tint off one of his cars and used a heat gun. The dumb idiot had burn marks on the carpet by the speakers. So just be carefull not to burn anything. If you do use it though, I might suggest heating from the outside of the car.

i'm just bustin' your chops man....

as a fellow jerseyite.... to think of it... i rarely used
my rear defroster in the last two winters.
it wasn't because i was afraid of the tint...
it was more like the autostart feature on my Viper ESP
would heat up the interior rather quickly....

no scraping needed either... man, i miss my Viper ESP.
