Remote Start questions

Hey Guys,
I apoligize in advance if this has been posted or answered already.

I own a 1998 CL 3.0. I am interested in installing a remote starter for it. I don't need an alarm or anything fancy, I just want to remote start it from my house.

I saw a Remote Start at Best Buy (i cant find it online now, still looking), for about $50. I just want to know if there will be any problems with the factory installed alarm, the transponder chip, or anything else I need to be made aware of?

Like, I said, I don't want anything fancy. I want to keep this pretty cheap. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You would need to hide a key chip somewhere but this will allow a person with a key or screwdriver punch out your key hole and drive off the car.

i have the Viper 790XV, which has autostart. i dont know anything about the key chips or anything like that, but i do know good luck in driving away my car. its got the kill switch and a fuel cutoff. and theres even a newer version out, the 791. they're pretty cheap, i think about 350 or so now, maybe even lower depending. i'd go with one of those before installing one on the factory alarm.

id get an alarm that comes with remote start, think about investing in one. I have the viper 550esp, theres an even cheaper remote start from them too, the 300esp or something. Check out www.directed.com

I appreciate the suggestions. I really don't need an alarm. I wasn't hoping to pay that much either. I just want something to start my car from the house in the hot or cold seasons.

I dont really need to impress chicks. I got myself a good one.
Even with an alarm, i wasn't looking to pay 350....I really wanted to keep it below 200. Ideally, less than 100, but now I guess I have to raise my budget

I would like a fancy remote start alarm but my car has manual transmission. I know you can do it with the manual transmission but has anyone here done it? How did it work out? The guy at the shop said I would just have to leave the car in neutral all the time and he could bypass the clutch some kinda way but I am skeptical about these things.

There are options out there that allow you to install a switch the prevents you from starting the car remotely if the car is not in neutral. Other systems force you to follow a particular procedure when shutting down the car in order to start it remotely. Look around and you'll find your answers.

Well mine took a while because the guyz didnt know how to do it. The hard part is the coded key, and the safety feature of starter kill until clutch it down all the way. Once they bypass that its not hard. Its against insurace policy for shops not to it for manual cars. so unless u do it urself. or know someone, ur out of luck. One time my friend sat in my car to get a cd. he put my car in gear. when i went to auto start it later, it made an ugly sound and the ebrake was the only thing stopping it from running away. the car also jumped 1 foot forward. so if i didnt have the ebrake up, i would rear ended the car infront of me. but i learned and its all good.

Friend got it on his 240sx. Let just say one day it was funny to see all the mechanics chasing after the car down the street when somebody did a remote start.

I have the Viper 791 XV 2 way and I love it. It will start from a 1/4 mile away. I do not even have to aim at the car for it to start. By the way, I do have a manual transmission. It is true that they need to bypass the factory chip. If I leave my car in gear, IT WILL TAKE OFF. I am very careful and have gotten into the habit of leaving my car in neutral w/ e-brake. One last thing about this alarm which works great........These guys were working on the power lines by my car. My remote transmitter alerted me that my car got bumped into. I walked out front and over to my car and what do you know, they backed into my bumper. It wasn't bad, but scrathed enough to piss me off. I busted these guys right away. Sorry to whore on your cost effective remote starter but I highly recommend this one. Lastly, you will not find any shops to install it in a manual unless you know someone.

I received a Viper 160 (I think) as a Christmas gift from my girl. I just had it installed at Best Buy where she got it. I asked them to hook up the remote start to the factory alarm. Meaning that I would only have to use one key fob to open the doors, trunk and remote start. I had to give them my valet key which they use to bypass the immobilizer when the car is trying to remote start.

A few added benfits that I got with the remote start feature: 1) When opening the doors from the remote, both doors now open. 2) When turning the car off, the doors automatically open and close when turning the car on.

i think thats the "anti-carjacking' mechanism. Good Stuff. Good thing u had bestbuy do it, because my 2nd cousin who owns the stereo shop had his head up his A$$ and he never intalled the trunk release to the new alarm. I didnt take it back because he holds onto my car for like 1 week at a time. Im going to try to do it myself...

I finally got my system installed. Granted, I think the guy tried to rip me off, but he didn't.

I got the Viper 160VX. After installation, it was $318 total. He didn't install the kill switch or other push switch. But it works great. Awesome signal and distance.

No complaints yet, other than the difficulty that they apparantly had with the CL. Supposedly, its a difficult system to work with

i have noticed that mechanics say that a lot about the CL, at least in my experiences.
is it true or they just havent really worked on them so they say that. one mechanic even told me that the CL had its own special parts and none of Honda would fit in it. needless to say, i didnt go back to him.
