Remote Start

Welp, it had been quite a few years since I did automitive security systems, but I haven't lost my touch

I installed the Hornet 554T two-way remote start security system and after a day, it was good to go. Hornet, and many others (Clifford, Viper), are owned by DEI. THe 554T is esentially the same is the Clifford Matrix RSIII, but with more features and is a newer system bosting tempurature activated remote start, indiglo baclight two way LCD remote with status indicators, and much more.

If you are going to attempt your own install, take the time to remove both front seats. You will already have to remove the passenger seat if you have a factory alarm under it (as I did with my 99 3.0).

Here are the wires I can verify worked perfect in my car:

Good luck, and make sure you know what your getting in to YOu have to leave the factory alarm, and actually have the new one talk to it.

THe 555U is a key trasponder that you need to start the car. Our cars will not start without the key in the ignition, so you use the 555U to fool it. You put the key into a box that transmits the keys code to the key cylinder with a loop antenna. WIthout this, you have to leave the key in the ignition, and I don't recommend that.

I got a compustar 2WFM remote starter.

I'm having trouble getting it to start when it is really cold. I had them adjust the tach - I have no idea what that means, but it is still having trouble starting.

Will probably take it back soon!

I have a Manual and have been wanting remote start so bad but was told it's illegal

Does anyone know if it's legal with the clutch bypass? I remember looking at some auctions and seeing that it is legal with a clutch bypass and it costs like $10 or something like that...anyway

Hope to get this answer soon I already know what alarm I want

I wouldn't recommend it on any manual tranny. You run the risk of hurting someone or your car if left in gear.

Congrats on the remote install!

According to my Uncle (who's running his own install shop in PA), there are legal remote starters for manual tranny cars. I don't have additional info. If you need info, I'll have him send you an e-mail.

EDIT: I do remember saying that there is a specfic procedure that the driver must follow when turning off the vehicle so that the car isn't remoted started while in gear. Not following the SPECIFIC protocol will result in failure of the remote starter and no worky!

Is there anything that we can do to the stock alarm to add more functions, like a shock sensor, etc? I'm sure that we can't do a remote start with it.

Do you guys think it's just best to get an after market?

You can add a shock sensor no problem. Power and ground it, then splice teh trigger from the shock sensor to the hood or trunk trigger on the factory alarm.

chrisbpickering: I have a question for you. Are you having problems with the alarm going off when you hit the car start? Because sometimes when I do, it sets it off. I think it's my exhaust that does it, but my broz friend put in a relay for me and it stopped for a while, but now it does it again once in a while.

My alarm ignores the shock sensor input when it is remote started. It checks to make sure my netural wire is grounded (in park or netural), that the brake isn't pressed, the hood is closed, then it sends the key code to the cylinder through the 555U and disables the shock sensor just prior to starting.

After shut down, it resumes monitoring the shock sensor.
