Racing Seats

Hey guys has anyone put any aftermarket racing seats in their CL??? I'm planning on going with an all black or black with suede insert rcaro racing seats. What did you guys have to do with the power seat part of it? What would I need to get to get this to work?

But it's pretty basic, you'll need rail kits for the seats, and then just unplug the power stuff and you'll be good to go. Getting the rail kits lined up is the hard part.

I don't think you would be able to get the power seats to work with your new ones unless you can get sliders that are electric. Or if there is a way to seperate your power ones from your seat and somehow get them on the new one.

Seems like more trouble than its worth. I would just take the good with the bad and leave the power out.

You can't use the power options, i thought he was just talkin about removing them with the seats, which I said is just unplugging a few wires

If you going to get seats your going to lose the stock power seats. All you have to do is unbolt the four bolts that holds the seats down, plug a few plugs and thats it. remove the seats. then buy brakets for the 94-97 accord, sliders and seats. bolt it all back up and your done

Oh yea. You'll have to unbolt the seat belt thing from the stock seats and bolt it onto the aftermarket one, so you could click in your seat belt.

How about the 4-5 point aftermarket harness? you don't need the stock seatbelt holder if you go with the harness right?

you will lose access to your rear seat if you get a 4 point harness because you have to anchor both upper belts to the bolts that hold your rear seatbelts to the car,.. either that or install a bar that goes from one B-pillar to the other that can hold the belts,.. in either case, you will lose access to your rear seat...

I don't mean to burst any bubbles but they aren't real bride seats...the bride brix wasn't produced in red suede... why do you think they're going for so cheap? Unless he got them custom done..

Oh well, here's a pic of what you'll see from the trunk, you'll see the same thing from the inside of the car, minus the seat coushins of course. But there's a big metal seperator as shonisha mentioned

Where do you live? If you can, please do a DIY with pics of the locations of where the bolts are...

I'm gonna get buckets but i am not sure whether i should remove the rear seats or not... if i do remove it, i'll put in the harness bar and grab a 4pt harness too...

since we're on the subject, I would just like to let you guys know that a typical 4pt harness + bucket seat will be LESS safe than your stock safety equipment.

*copied and pasted from a post I made on another site covering the same subject*

In general you have two options as far as safety, you cannot mix and match or do parts of any. It's a all or nothing deal:

1. Use all stock safety equipment. Bucket seats won't allow the stock seatbelts to wrap around you correctly.

2. Use 5 point harness or better + FIA certified (or outdated/non certified with back brace) seat that accepts 5 point harness or better + Roll bar/roll cage.

You should not use a roll bar/roll cage on the street so that knocks off number 2.

Some may disagree with me for whatever reason they have (too impractical, too safe, too uncool, I don't know) but its your ass on the line, not mine or theirs..do what you want. There's always exceptions to the rule but there are very few, trust me.
The above will give you a safety system with the least compromise and "weak links in the chain"

However, there is apparently a DOT approved harness (works like OEM seatbelt with locking mechanism, as opposed to being strapped in) on the market made by some company (saw this on TV)...people set on getting a harness should look into one.

Those seats aren't really bucket seats but do have a bigger side bolster than other seats. Have you ridden in an evo or sat in a sparco-type seat? Stock seat belts will usually end up wrapping around the bolster instead of the person which isn't a good thing. If you can find a bucket seat that works with OEM belts, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Anyways, the OEM seatbelts in cars like the evo with bucket seats are still made to wrap around your waist. Car designers will mount the seatbelts in a way to make this possible. I haven't looked at the evo closely (not really interested i guess) but i remember the seatbelts being very annoying as it kept rubbing my neck. Come to think of it, he might have had aftermarket seats in it...iunno.

The best way for seatbelts to work with a bucket seat is using a 5pt. harness. But you shouldn't use a strap-like setup without a rollbar or roll cage, which is why the DOT approved harness is probably your best option.

edit: after looking at stock evo seats, they aren't really buckets either.

if i remember.. theres two black piceces on the bottom of the seat cushion.(where seat and carpet meet) take a flat head and pry it up. do it till the seat pops up then proceed to the next side..

for the seat belts there are 1 bolt each i believe hold them down. you will need to put your rachet in the little space where seat belt is and feel for the bolt. then just prop your seat up and out.

for the back cushion. theres 1 or 2 bolts on each sides. you will see this once ur seat cushion is out. unbolt those and lift the back cushion up (hard part) and out then you should be good to go.

i acutally did mine w/out a diy. just got bored on a random weekday and wasn't hard at all!! let me know if you need help. ill try to see if i have time to acutally post pics.

otherwise PM me.
