were they available on any 97s or was it a new thing for 98+? also has anyone added them with a stock head unit? how tough is it?

No audio controls on the steering wheel for '97.
They were incorporated on the '98 and '99 CL models when Honda introduced the redesigned 1998 Accord.

Lots hahaha It got disabled when I changed the head unit. It cost about 100 bucks to make it work with a headunit with a remote option though. I haven't decided that it was worth the 100 bucks for it to work on my 98.

Mine got fucked after i had my factory stereo replaced under warranty. Had to go back later and get my remote replaced under warranty
everything was changing the stations and tracks, no volume control, or it would make it go louder. was really fucked up.
all better now.
