quick questions about steering wheel audio controls

were they available on any 97s or was it a new thing for 98+? also has anyone added them with a stock head unit? how tough is it?

No audio controls on the steering wheel for '97.

They were incorporated on the '98 and '99 CL models when Honda introduced the redesigned 1998 Accord.

It works by an infrared sensor. So if ur steering wheel is turning like all the way to the right, it won't work or left. etc. But how many people are turning the wheel and changing the track/radio at same time. Lots hahaha It got disabled when I changed the head unit. It cost about 100 bucks to make it work with a headunit with a remote option though. I haven't decided that it was worth the 100 bucks for it to work on my 98.

I don't think that's how it works. I think python's us just fuked. Mine works all the way around, at any extreme, left or right.

Mine did that also as his. Maybe they improved it on the newer models. But i can "block it" with my hand.

What year is your car? Mine's a 98 3.0. I'll play with it in just a bit as I'm about to leave...but I remember I had my wheel upside down turning and I hit the track change w/ no probs. Where is it that you block the IR at?

Yeah, u go to a shop and ask them to do it. What it is is that there is a aftermarket module that can learn commands from the steering wheel and sends a translated signal to the aux remote input of the aftermarket radio. This works with 95% of the aftermarket stereos that have a infrared remote control. Cost should be in the $100 area. The piece is like 20 bucks, and you have to rip up a good part of the dash/steering wheel area to install it. Not too bad

Mine was sketchy also. I had to have it replaced by the dealer once and also the headunit on a seperate occasion. And yes it does work while making turns.

Hmm maybe I gotta clean it. It works at different positions on my wheel, it just at certain angles it don't work. Oh well It disabled right now so I might try it when I get the kit installed for it to work.

Mine got fucked after i had my factory stereo replaced under warranty. Had to go back later and get my remote replaced under warranty

everything was changing the stations and tracks, no volume control, or it would make it go louder. was really fucked up.

all better now.
