Quick Question
So...ive always tried different headlight replacements and I honestly cannot decide what is the best as far as output/life. Is there a good bulb in stores that is brighter than stock but dont burn out after a few months? I really like Silverstars as i had them in the past and I saw those Hella "xenon" lights at the store today and was wondering if these were good? I do not want a whole HID set up. Theres honestly too many damn choices

Don't waste your money on those crappy Silverstars...I went through at least 3 sets, always burning a bulb within a few months.
After reading up lots on retrofitting, using HID kits and the ballasts I decided I wanted to something more reliable simple and cost effective.
I found informtion regarding HiR bulbs (75-80% light output of HID), and went ahead with that route, and after running that setup since March 2009, I'm happy to report the bulbs have not burnt out yet! I'm still running on the 2x original HiR bulbs that I picked up and modded for direct plug & play with the OEM headlight sockets.

I'm glad I didn't rice out my car and yes, I'm happy with the improved light output and cut-offs of the HiR bulbs

i got sick of replacing silverstar's every 6-8months so i bought a cheap $60 set of plug n play hid's. one of them burned out last week after over two year iirc. ordered replacement bulbs for 13bucks off ebay. They are really bright, have the 4300k's in my headlight and fogs too. i don't care if they are glare kits, beats hitting dear.

silverstars were alright for me, they lasted about a year. then i got $60 HIDs, and within a year one of the ballasts crapped out but they sent me a replacement for free. just go with HIDs.

I like silverstars, but they do burn out quick, the hellas are supposed to have a much longer life.

I have HID's in mine (was in it when I got the car) and it had 10000k bulbs but I changed it to 4300k soon after because I do not like the blue lights. I actually like the idea of the HiR bulbs and if I ever need to replace what i have now I may go this route because I can do away with those ballasts under the hood

id say HIRs are the way to go especially since phillips has introduced the latest generation of hir bulbs. from a cost perspective tho, hid kits have become so cheap its hard to pass up.

Silverstar Ultras were one of my first "mods" on the CL. I loved them! They were super white and really bright and lasted till a few weeks before I sold the car after 2 years of owning it. Which is crazy because I bought a set for the Z a couple of months ago as it's first "mod" too and my drivers side Ultra just burnt out yesterday.. I'm just gonna put in a normal bulb in there that I saved from the CL's originals till I get an hid kit next week.

I'm rocking the ultras right now on my 4runner, waiting for one to burn out before I throw one of my extra sets of pnp hid kits in with a set of relay harnesses
