Question about climate control color..please help!!!
Hey guys, I know that this has been on here before but i figured maybe if I ask the question more specifically I could get a stright answer. Ok, here i go, I am changing the colors of the lights on the inside of our car. I found the LED website where the guy did it to his accord. This has been helpful so far. My only delay is the clock and climate control. I read this on here before and I was wondering if someone could explain it to me or could tell me another way of changing the clock color.
"Changing the clock and climate control displays requires a filter over those parts. They are actual blocks of LEDs, so you can't replace them with ones of different colors. I had a site saved that sold some small inserts that were made to change the color of an LED display like so, but I can't find that link. It's just lighting gels, you'd prob get the best results experimenting with diff shades. I have a Rosco swatchbook hehe so I can try them all! "
Any help would be great!!!!

I think proaudio22 said that about the rosco swatchbook. A gel is used in theater and stage production to change the color of stage lights. I dont know if it will work very well but it could be worth a try.
from what I read on here... I read that thread that you are refering to a long time ago... but.
the climate control has a green filter on it. The lights just shine through the filter and make it look green, or make it look greener. You need to scrape off the filter that is on there and leave it clear or put another color filter of your own on... if you scrape it off you can just change the bulb in the back to the color you want. That was my understanding of it, but I could be wrong, I haven't done it myself, but that is what I read.

I would recommend just changing the filter though. If might not be as bright as u want but who wants a super bright clock inside the car.

There is no bulbs to change. The light you see is actually small strip LEDs that form numbers or light up as the precut symbols. They are green and CANNOT be changed from this color. There is no filter to scrape off. You can however, ADD a filter IN FRONT of the multi segment display. It will cut the brightness down - how much depends on how deep in color the gel is and the color you choose.
This is the swatchbook I was reffering to before. It has a 1.5"x3.75" sample of EVERY gel color Rosco offers in the Roscolux series (the best). Gels are used to correct color temp in stage lighting, change color for effects, etc. With the swatchbook, you can sample all of the colors to find the one that best matches the other colors you are using. Then from there you can buy a sheet of the gel you need. For your application, I would just buy the Designer Swatchbook - it has 3"x5" samples of each gel, which is enough material to cover the climate control and clock. Cut the gel so that it fits behind the plastic outer trim and it will just sit infront of the display. You won't be able to tell it's there most of the time b/c it's dark around the area (you might be able to see some glare in the sun, depends). The only drawback is that gels bend easy(you can see the creases). You must be careful handling them else it will look like ass lol.

You really just have to try a bunch of them to find the right color. For example, #4630 CalColor 30 Red (pinkish color) turned the display white. Looked pretty cool.
Joe, sorry I didn't respond to your PM before - hope this helps!
