Thanks. I love the birch. It's so much lighter. The top/bottom panels of the box are 33"w x 20"d and the whole thing as it sits is like less than 20lbs. In the past, I've had ~40lbs of sub and 50+ of box. This time, I'm probably going to have like 30lbs of box and 50lbs of subs...

Only the best good sir... I'm thinking of staining it, if it lasts in the car for more than a month... Seems all my other setups have been sold about the time they get installed, but I'd like to change that with this one... I guess we'll see...

Must've been a strong/light bed frame... The one thing I hate about it is all the splinters after cutting with a table saw. Some 40 grit sandpaper takes them off in a jiff though... And I'm trying to sell all my old boxes right now, but nobody wants to even think about them I guess... Kinda sucks...

Yup, I'm still around. I haven't seen pictures of that setup in so long. I didn't recieve a PM from you. Good thing I decided to click on this post.

Anyways, the bracket is actually a custom metal bracket my dad bent for me. You could use L brackets, bend them and place a piece of wood on it, then mount the amp on it.

Do you have any more pictures? Where are the brackets mounted? The floor or the side somehow?

Thanks! Thought I pmed you, guess i forgot to hit send.

I got my sub setup in and playing last night. I posted it in my build log in the A/V section, but I realize a lot of 1st gen-ers don't look there, so I'll throw up some pics here. First, I'd like to say to everyone designing and building their own boxes, 17" high will not fit through the opening of our trunks. This is the first box I built that tall, and it was a challenge. Had to pull the spare out, but the box is now in and playing. Anyway, pics:

Attempt number 1:

It's in:

Box in, brace out, no subs:

Subs in and wired:

Well, Chris, I gotta show up your 2 12s... I think I'm tuned lower too. This box is tuned at 30hz, and it kills the lows with no testing/tuning, and the gain all the way down. Running the amp at .5 ohms, 9v pre-outs, I'm a little nervous about setting the gain myself. I think I'm gonna up it a bit (just a wee bit) when I leave at like 12:30 tonight. Should be a good show up in WI. Gonna be some loud ass cars there, and some of the best competition in the country.

Link to show thread on Termpro: http://audioforum.termpro.com/topic/4/20363.html Anyone in that area not doing anything should go, it's going to be a helluva show...

You can do much better than a square sub for quality fyi... The square subs will generally get louder, but that's due to their cone area advantage. They will sound like shit while they get loud though, so heads up. If you're looking for boxes, I have a couple for 1 12" round sub (although if you do decide to go with the square, they could be easily altered). Where are you in the country? I'm really trying to get rid of these boxes that are just taking up garage space, so if you're anywhere close, I'll hook you up. PM me if interested...

And Chris, we're going to have to meet up sometime when I get this setup done and sealed up... I'm very impressed with it thus far. It's for sure the lowest playing setup I've had in the car, but my 12 might've been a little louder. Sealing up, and properly setting gains, as well as some electrical backup should put it well over the top as the loudest setup yet in my CL.

No, I don't have anymore pictures. The brackets were screwed to the trunk floor. Make sure there's nothing under before u do that...

I had to modify the speaker box just to get my damn subs to fit If that's not custom I don't know what is Note, this is my 5th system in the CL.

Had to space out the speaker holes 1/2" all the way around, trimmed hole on left, the way it came on the right

Dremel action

Mounted

I really should take a pic of it mounted in the car, I've been going def for a while now!

Any specs on that enclosure Chris? Looks kinda like a pre-fab... I really hope with as custom as the rest of your car is that you're not running a pre-fab box...

Looks to be a mono for the subs and a 4 channel for the interior speakers. I'd assume front channels for the fronts and rears for those massive 6x9s Chris had... At least, I don't think he's gone active and pulled the rear speakers... Chris? Did you?

You'll probably gain about 1.5 db from your subs if you pull the rear speakers, fyi. That's about what I gained when I was doing some SPL testing. Might be even more if you get a good seal between the 6x9s and the deck. My seal was junk thanks to a jig saw and a horribly un-steady hand...

1 Monoblock 1500W Class D for the subs, and an 800W 4 channel for the highs

No way am I pulling the 6x9's after what I went through to get them to fit!

Out of all the sweet setups i saw that made me want to make something similar, that one is unique Clean, sophisticated, and no doubt practical.

I need to make a setup one of these days, i just dont have a woodshop or tools around ;(

On a fun note... my manager asked me to look at her system to figure out why it wasn't working after she let her brother barrow it... First thing i said.. Where is your amp?... Long story short her brother stole her amp and moved. I had to laugh at her... even if i felt bad.
