Poor gas mileage?

Just curious about everyone's fillup habits. I have a '98 3.0 CL with about 112K miles on it. Lately the gas light has been coming on after about 250 miles, and when I fill it back up I only get to put in 13 gallons before the pump cuts me off. This works out to about 19 miles/gallon. Anyone care to hazard a guess why the light is coming on so early now? I thought the tank was 17 gallons? How much does everyone else put in before the pump shuts off?

I used to go about 350 miles and would put in 14.5 gallons or so. More like 24MPG.

Yesterday, I got an average of 120 miles per 1/4 tank @ 2800-3000rpm on the freeway.

Normal driving for me to work and school (both 50/50 hiway/city) I get about 300-350 miles to the tank (IE almost down to the E) with a decent amount of lead foot syndrome. So I get about 20-22mpg average.

Does anyone know exactly how much is in the tank then the gas light comes on? My buddies Accord has the exact same size tank and his manual says 3 gallons when the light comes on. He can still drive for 80 miles with the light on (2.3L). For my numbers above, I just took 1 gallon out for the light, and estimate that every 1/4 tank was 4 gallons. If it's less, then I'm getting even better gas mileage hehe.

On the inside back cover of the manual, it says 17.0 US gallons (64.5 liters)

It doesn't say how much is left in the tank when the light comes on. The book simply says when the light comes on, you must refill soon.

So I guess mine comes on when I have like 4 gallons left? That what happens with everyone else? Thats nearly 80 miles.

Our tanks are 17 gallons.

I'm getting 20 mpg, running 93 octane and nitrous (ocassionally).

I used to get about 350-375 miles per tank, and just within the past month I bumped down to only about 250-260 miles per tank. Anyone want to venture a reason why this is happening?

400, that's all?!? My buddy can get almost 600 hiway miles in his F23 Accord Auto. He gets around 350-400 mixed driving. Like I posted above, I was getting 120 miles per 1/4 tank this weekend - which would be 480/tank on my 3.0.

You can't really go by 1/4 tank, I've noticed that for the first 1/2 tank the needle drops alot more slower than the last 1/2. For example, I can usually get around 100-110 miles for the first 1/4th, then by 1/2, I'm at around 180 miles, etc...

On the hiway man. Actually it was 2500 rpm or so, not the 2800 I stated before (traveling 72 mph).

That could explain it, you were running 3-4K rpm.
