placement of aftermarket tweeters in the first gen

Did alot of you guys put your aftermarket tweeters in the stock location, front windshield area, or did you cut a spot in the door? How does the sound differ up front or on the side? How hard was it to cut? Thanks

Stock

I wouldn't even think about cutting into my door, it's too perty

Stock locations sound good on mine i had to rig it a little to get the aftermarket tweets to fit but it worked out fine. If your going to put them in the dash i recommend getting a component with an adjustable tweeter ouput, so you can adjust them to your liking. Mine imo sounded really bright so i lowered them all the way. I'm happy with the imaging i get and highly recommend using the stock locations.

I have mine next to the door handle, just cut a hole and slip them in. They did sound a little better when I had them down in the map holder in the door, but they rattled like crazy so I moved them.

Unless they don't fit i would just put them in the stock location. That is a good place for tweeters to be. With your mids and lows coming from your feet area, having the tweeters up high will kinda counteract that, and make it sound like your right in the middle of the band.

I'm stealing d98turbocl's pic but if you look at the left of the pic you can see what he's talking about. I didn't feel like rerouting wires when i did mine so stock locations where perfect for me. Her's the pic i found from his car. http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/d98...+1.jpg&.view=t

Yes and no. You don't want the tweeters reflecting off the windshield too much. It makes reflections of different delays in addition to the direct sound and can really futz up your high end. If you can aim the tweets to they either totally reflect or totally aim directly at you, then that could work fairly well. It all depends.

Do you have rear speakers? If so, chances are they are fillin in the gaps. I still have my stock stuff, but I moved the fader all the way to the front, and it is horrible! All pressed into the sides, nasty sound. Try fading all your sound to the front and listening too it.

Rick, how do they sound with no rear fill? I think the stocks leave a big hole in the middle.

I'm still debating the HLCDs. I might just get a set of traditional components.

I also have Infinity 6 x 9s in the rear (plus 2 JBL 12s in the trunk).

To me, they sound fantastic. When I'm playing a live CD, it sounds like I'm sitting in the center of the Arena.
