Painting those Black Depo Headlights...

Hello all..i just bought a Black 97 CL 2 days ago and have been looking a lot into changing out the headlights because the stock ones look really rough. Ive read through all of the reviews on this site about the black depo headlights on ebay and i agree that the stripes on the corners need to go so i have a couple questions..

1) What is the function of the bulb in that striped part of the headlight? Can we do without it?

2) Has anyone masked off the entire corner and painted it black to cover the stripes?

I photoshopped davzilla's ride to get an idea of what it might look like, props to him for building a sweet CL!

photoshop w/stripes blacked out:

that looks repulsive. please dont consider. but other than that, the bulb has no true function.

Painting that portion of the light might look pretty Fugly . On the other hand, some fancy sheet metal work to blend the front quarter over the corner of the head light to match the divider of the headlight to the hood line will definitely be wicked.

repulsive? thats harsh lol...i think it looks ten times better then the three claw cat scratch depo cursed them with

I'd ust paint them black for now..i dont have the funds to do any type of body work but molding them in would definitely be ideal...

they do, they're called depo lights as well. just without the black stripes. they might cost a lil more though.

f22, did you use plastic polish after wetsanding? Plast-x works really well, i used that after wet sanding, and they were clear afterwards.

^he's talking about modding the depo headlights with the stripes on the sides, if he makes them amber, there will still be the black stripes there, but if he makes it all black then you might not even notice they were striped before.
for what it's worth it, i think it might turn out good, atleast better than the black stripes i would think
or if you don't want to risk it just buy the normal headlights off of ebay like zero said

i havent seen them on ebay where do they sell them then? aha

gnate yea i bought some kit that supposed to clean them. i bought two of them actually. i mean my one light is screwed cuz i let my stupid friend mess around with them too and he sanded the inside for no reason then sealed it back up with out finishing the process. plus way back i thought i cud just spray paint behind the plastic part orange instead of buying the tint spray. it looks good during the day justs looks bad at night.

No one has tried, but they're from the same mold so they would fit pretty close, I too had thought of painting the corners, I always thought they'd look better smoked out like my corners

IMO if you smoked the lense behind the stripes that would probably be the easiest and take away from the black stripes, it would probably look less ghetto than just painting the whole corner lense black, and with the smoked lense it still serves a function and light comes through it

Just trying to contribute about the corners, same idea as the amber only smoked, which would hide the stupid zebra stripes way better

We need someone like davzilla to weigh in on what he thinks the lights look like on the inside, I dunno about cutting them, I think you may have to sand them off, they look painted to me

you know how when you open up the oem's. the part you paint is separate? same deal here and just like the oems the clear lense or in my case the clear stripes pop out.

my 2 cents is that it's not worth the hassle or risk of opening up mint headlights. the stripes really don't look that bad irl. plus i'm the only one up there with em i think.

if anything, smoke the clear strips and be done with it.

I think he was talking about the pic the OP posted. That does look pretty grose.. The stripes don't look too too bad imo but since I'm opening up mine anyway, might as well chop em' off.

Haha, yeah, it's cool. I would be ashamed about it but I wash the car every or every other week. It's not neglect, I just can't do anything about it. Their widening Blanco there at Banco and Stone Oak and there is literaly a nasty haze in the air from all the rock their grinding up here in the morning and when all that settles with the dew on the car, no matter how good the wax job is, that dirt is sticking..

Sure mang. I'll keep my eyes pealed.

btw, when did you see me?

I actually think i've seen you twice, once I was on the wifes MDX, the other time I was on my bike, the first time was probably a few months ago, i think you were cruising w/ another CL or accord (possibly the red cl in your avatar). probly mid afternoonish on a sunday i think.

i always roll my windows up over there by blanco man, that air is nasty, i feel it clogging my lungs dude. anyway my cl is NPB slammed on RH19s 5%tint... w/ a fat dent in the trunk....
