Painting Headers

I would like to mask and cover everything and try to paint the headers while they're on. Stop me if this is stupid.

If I took them off, wouldn't I need to put new gaskets on?

I don't have a lift, so that's why I was thinking of painting while on.

Is it possible to remove them without a lift?

I def wouldn't paint it on the engine, you won't be able to reach everywhere and it won't come out very well

If they're stock and you just want a clean look I would suggest just removing and painting the heat shield with high heat black.

I'd just take off the heat shield and paint that instead of the headers. The stock headers are pretty ugly and painting them wouldn't make them look much better. Plus I've heard that people have issues getting them to fit back on straight after they've been taken off.

Don't paint the heat shield powder coat it. Go to your local coater shouldnet charge much more than $20. I charge $15 to do it but your not local. I did mine in high gloss black and have done quite a few of them. Looks great and lasts much longer than paint.

From my 6 cyl cl

From a scion tc I did for a customer

My first idea was to get a Bosal Performance with new exhaust. BUT, I need to do the coilovers first and some transmission work.

So I thought I would paint my valve cover and headers. Right now, I'm thinking my VC will be dark red and the header silver or as close to chrome as paint can do.

The red will go with my red calipers and RIKEN decals in front of the rear wheels. I also hope to add a Secret Weapon intake soon: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_2800wt_786

I took the heat shield off because I didn't like the look of it. Could that cause harm to other engine parts?

The heat shield is there for a reason. It blocks heat from other parts. But you may be fine without it. It's called a heat shield for a reason, get it? I give you a few months before the paint looks like complete poo.

And fyi a simple cheap ebay intake pipe will work just as good as the over priced sr one. You can get a intake pipe for like $30 then get a good filter. Or waste you $200 so you can say you have a sr one. Choice is yours

I just used high heat flat grill paint on my heatshield and it lasted 1.5 yrs+. Was still there when I sold the car. Gave it an OEM clean look instead of corroded aluminum. Hit it with some steel wool first.

As for the heat shield's purpose... helps cut down on radiant heat to other nearby components such as the rad, AC hoses, etc. Will you notice a difference? Probably not. Are the stock headers ugly without the shield? Yes.

It's going to look better with the heat shield painted black or silver. The stock exhaust manifold is an ugly piece of stamped steel. If painting the manifold is what you want to do, I'd remove it and sand off the rust and corrosion first. Then, even with spray paint, the rust will still come through.

That header is for the 94-01 Integra GSR.

There are several members who have an aftermarket header on their F22/23. They might be able to point you in the right direction.
