Painted RIMS
Has anyone painted or thought about painting the stock rims? I have recently developed an itch to maybe paint my stock rims(black, white, or maybe bronze).
Anyone done this before or seen it done?
For those who know a bit about painting, will the texture of the rims be able to hold paint well? If so, which type of paint?
All opinions welcome.

I would strip off the clear already on the rims to get down to the metal. Then lightly scuff the aluminum rims, prime them, then paint with acrylic enamel and re-clear the painted rims.

And scuffing would be done using just common sandpaper id' assume?
The rest seems easy.
Thanks

Your best bet would be to powder coat them. Powder coating will last alot longer than paint and not scratch as easy as paint. My rims came painted white and they scratch real easy especailly from removing lugs.

Also, does "powder" imply white or do I still have a choice of colors?
What is powder coating exactly in relation to paint.
Thanks again.

Powder Coating is an advanced yet simple way of spray-painting a very fine, dry plastic powder paint onto a metal surface. As the powder paint cloud gently leaves the front of the spray gun, it is charged with static electricity. The charge attracts the powder paint to the part that requires coating. The part is then placed in an oven, where it bakes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. While in the oven, the powder paint melts and flows into a beautiful and durable finish. Primers are not necessary. And there are no unsightly runs or drips, as often results with the use of wet paint. Prior to baking, powder coating is very forgiving of coating mistakes. Because it is powder, the paint can be blown with a low-pressure air nozzle, quickly and easily covering up the mistake.
However, after the powder cures in the oven, mistakes can only be removed by sand blasting or burning it off.
Almost any color can be powder coated but you really can't get exact paint codes. For example you want to paint your rims black, there might 1 or 2 shades of black available to powder coat your rims but might not be the exact same color as your car.
Cost varies on rims size. Somwhere around $50 or so a rim.
