odd antics when gas level down to last 1/4

I get some wierd behavior from my 3.0 CL when the gas indicator is down to the last 1/4

It wont start right away, I have to turn the key a couple of times...

AND

The handbrake light stays on for a good half hour. (this only happens when I start the car for the first time in the day)

Any ideas?

Keeping my tank above the final 1/4 seems to prevent both, but WTF???

Anyone reckon dumping a bottle of fuel system cleaner should solve it?

This is usually a cold weather problem, but in mexico city it is probably pretty damn warm so i'm out of ideas.

brake light is your fluid level. it may look full but add some anyways, our resuvuars are sensitive to ANY fluid drop. the starting is kind of normal cause mine does it too in tampa so....if u hear anything else about the starting thing please let us all know. 1

My car has the same problem with the 1/4 tank of gas. I've noticed that if you let the car sit for about 10 seconds with the key in the starting position ( when all the lights come on) it normally fires up with one try. But if you just get in and turn on the car it usually takes a couple times to start. So try that and see if that will help.

Mine will do the samething sometimes. So when the brake light comes on, to get it to go away quick pop your hood & take the barke fluid cap off & then put it back on.

"Below 1/4-tank starting issue" is pretty common with our CLs

I'm not sure when or where I heard this, but I'm pretty sure this problem relates to the bad design of our fuel pump. So regardless of weather it seems to happen to everyone (though more noticeable in cold weather). Pretty much the only thing you can do is keep your tank above 1/4 or just deal with turning the key a couple times to get her started
