noob needs help with lights

First off, nice forum...this is my first post...

Secondly, I bought a 97 Cl about a year and some change ago...love it...it's on it's way to being win.

So, to the point, my driverside low beam bulb is out and I have a few questions:

1. What are my options in replacement bulbs? Should I just get the standard replacement bulb or will these Xenon bulbs I see all over the place work and not look weak? Are they common bulbs that I can get at like a pep boys/western auto or am i better off ordering something online?

2. Most importantly, I can't seem to get to the bulb. My dealership never gave me a manual and I can't seem to find out how to remove the casing. I took out two screws on the top of the lights, one on the lower left side (kinda inside the front bumper) and there's gotta be at least one (if not more) i'm missing. Should the whole casing come out so I can get to the bulb or do i need to go in from the inside? I took out my air intake and saw where there were some screws to that bulb...is that what I need to do??

3. Do ya'll recommend changing them both at the same time?

Sorry for the 20.3 questions -- but I want to act fast...my ride's too pretty to look all ghetto at night.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! Thx

oh man.. another one with questions........

you actaully have to take the car to a acura dealer. they can take the headlights out. it takes a solid 6 hours. after that they have to be flown out to japan for the repars as the lights are completely sealed. the total down-time on the project is about 6 months. count on about 2,000 with shipping and repars. sorry to break it to you man.

the low beams are 9006's and all you have to do is turn and pull. they come right out
the higs are 9005's and they do the same.

have fun posting and chect the thread at the top..... lots of answers to FAQ's.

now imma let the other memebers here haze you. :P j/k

Thanks for the quick response

I did read your first post (that's where i got the right size bulbs) otherwise I would've asked that too!

So I assume I need to take out the intake again and remove the little screws in the individual bulb casing for just that single bulb and pull it out there? Or does it come out with no screws involved?

Thanks again,

Which brings me also the Xenon question? Any suggestions there? Or would you just stick with normal replacement bulbs?

no screws involved. Just dissconnect the wirring harness, and turn the bulb and pull it out. Remember not to touch the glass at all!

To help with the first question a little more... you can just replace the bulbs with the factory ones, but I would say go to Auto Zone or Sears or something like that and get the "Lazer Blue" bulbs they have, they are only like 2 or 3 bucks more than the standard bulbs, but they last a lot longer than those ones you pay $30 a pair for and are illegal. They are more white in color and they actually make a big difference.

Thanks a bunch..will buy some of the ones you recommended tomorrey...

BTW, I saw your pics...for the Xenon or HID (sorry, i'm a light noob) -- don't you need something besides just the bulbs?

I was thinking there was some sorta isht you had to do other than just slapping them in there...

My head lights are the real HID's... they are actually from my friends old Lexus that he totaled. Yes there is more than just the bulb... theres the ballast also, that arcs the bulb at about 25,000 volts. I used to have a Philips HID conversion, but someone ripped those off. The HID kits usually run between $300 and $500, but I think they are worth it. They can be found on Ebay all the time by searching for "Real HID".

real blue bulbs are a quick way to attract all the wrong attention (cops) i dont really know how the laws are around your parts.. but in MD blue bulbs on the worng day can get you a work order and a quick $50 ticket.

stay away from the blue bulbs, I have cops looking everywhere I go. I got pulled over for my bulbs and I told the cop that they were stock and the dumb ass believed me so I was ok. I think Im going to change them and go with the super white though. Also, when you change the bulb be sure you do not touch it with your fingers. The oils on your fingers can heat up on the bulb and cause it to explode. Just a helpful hint. Good luck.
