if the noise comes when you are making a right hand of left hand trun then it is you drive shaft joints that need to be replaced...but if you hear the nouise while stationary then it might be your rack and pinion...am dealing with the same issue right now have already purchased a reman rack and pinion assembly and got both the drive shafts replaced as well some time back.......

for the drive shaft it is a constanat squeeking/grinding noise.....but for the rack&pinion it is a grding noise only when the wheels are truned to the extreme left or right even when stationary.....

my 2%

If the noise is while you are stationary its normal.. its just the power steering pump making noise trying pump when its at full lock.. dont keep doing it.. lol

I had this problem and started freaking out too.
It turned out that my wheel well was loose from breaking 3 of the clips from installing my intake. *whew*
