No flow for me...

Mom won't let me get the Magnaflow exhaust with the CatBack! Damn not owning the car myself. She is apparently against "modding" the car. I'm glad that I bought the sound system and had it installed without her knowing. Man, I was planning on this exhaust for the Dublin meet...

But, part of the reason is that I might be getting an STI...

i guess that is where owning the car yourself is nice...you can do waht you want...except when you have to pay out $200 for a new caliper...that sucks

i wish my parents paid for it all

you are all lucky, be happy they do, cause when they dont, you wont know what to do with all the money to pay for it, i just dupped 400 on new pads and brakes

and not including the window regulator, starter, alternator rebuilt, a new battery, new tires, all in the past 2 months

after bringing my car home my dad came up to me and told me I needed to lower it. I then told him I spent all my cash on the car and he ended up buying me lowering springs

be thankful your parents can and are willing to provide for you - when you get your own car, you'll realize how much money you waste on it - whether its insurance, registration, payments, mods, etc. In 2 weeks, i'll have spent $2k on my car and the only thing I'll have thats cool to show from it is a set of Teins...

for me, i aint crying, cuz even though it cost more without my parents i love the feeling of being independant and the fact that when it comes to my car my parents cant say anything about it (like modding and shit)

There is a way... I'm in college (which my parents pay for) I work (currently at work) and I pay for my car... 5 year financing... pay for insurance and paid for the little mods I have... so I mean it can be done, but if it isn't a top priority then it can wait. If you want to spend money on it just make it a priority of yours to now blow money on other shit like going out to eat and going to movies a lot and stuff like that. Just write out how much you spend on different things like new clothes if you go shopping a lot, food, movies, events/concerts... things of that nature and then add it up and then see that if you cut it down 50% you could buy your car something nice.

Why would she be against getting a little exhaust system if youre getting an STi, which is built from the ground up as a race car....oh wait that sounds like my mom

But yea if youre gonna get an STi, you should save your money...it's a big jump $$-wise from what you got now.

I like the system I have at home: parents pay essentials like price tag, ins. and all that crap...i pay for extras

how old is every one? your parents control your life that much that you cant put aftermarket parts on your car. you should tell them that is makes it run better..better for gas milege..thats what would do

I'm 20....a couple years back, my parents wouldnt let me do shit...but now they just view mods as wasting money (I see their point since it actually lowers the resale value of the car). So now as long as I'm reasonable, they don't mind too much.

yea, that's all he's done, everyonce he'll help out w/ repairing something if i'm broke. But I think part of the incentive was I had gotten straight A's that semester also.

Sounds like youngens still living w/mommy and daddy!...which is all good, don't get me wrong. However don't rush to be so independent and own your own ride. You guys have nice cars whether mom/dad pay for it or not, be glad! I have a 5yr old son, own a home, have my GS-T AND have plenty of misc bills(credit cards, utilities, insurance, food, clothes, etc...)! The real world can hit you hard, so don't get so down on your parents for petty stuff. I say petty cause there's many out there who would kill to be in your position and just own a sweet ride, let alone modding it!
Appreciate what you got! Can't have your cake and eat it too...all the time!

I'm 17. Mods won't necessarily lower your resale value, if you find the right buyer, they might actually pay you more. I know kids at my school who would throw in extra dough just so that they didn't have to go and get the parts installed themselves. Of course, I also know one guy who was having his sound system installed (just subs) then saw the guy take out his rear speakers in order to connect the wires. Apparently he was dumb enough to not only not realize that they were his speakers being reinstalled, but to pay the guy extra for it (thinking that they were aftermarket speakers)!
