Newbie stereo ?'s

I've read the sound system board and maybe I'm dense but how do I know if my '97 2.2CL has a bose system, I see no "BOSE" badging at all. I want to replace the speakers but now I'm all confused...
Do all CL's have BOSE systems?

Isn't there a way to wire your speakers for 2 OHMS if that is the major problem with the setup?

No, not all CL's had the bose system, the 2.2 with cloth interior did not. And trust me, if you had a bose system, you'd know it, Bose likes to flaunt their name too much, I'd be all over the place. But thats all the company is, they continue to promote their name, so people will think they are a good company, when in reality the 6x9's in your rear deck cost them about $2 a piece. So you are actually lucky there is no Bose in there, things will be so much easier for you... cause once you change one thing in a bose system, you gotta change all of it pretty much to get good sound. And to answer your question about impedance, yes you can wire a speaker to make the amp see 2 ohms, but only with another voice coil (as in another speaker) or with subwoofers you can wire the coils differently if they have dual VC's. So i'd say you are in good hands... you can safely add on to your system, piece by piece till your done and you'll still sound good in the process. BTW... Bose Blowz!! Good luck!

Actually non of the 2.2 CL's got the Bose system, Premium with the leather or base without leather. Im not sure about the 98s or 99s but i know this is true for the 97s.

I have a 2.2 Premium and I'm reading my sticker right now. No Bose on it anywhere. I don't believe any 2.2s received any Bose equipment. But I'll tell you one thing, changing the head unit made a world of difference!

This is my stereo, is this the same one you had jhowell? Has anyone replaced one like this? I'm wondering if there's an amp, or if it all runs off the head unit.

Hey amembrane. I went to HS in Randolph. Class of 95. I'm in the DC area now and I just bought a Black 97 3.0 and I love it (except my stereo broke this month, but thats a whole other story).

My son just swapped out the stereo in his 97.
He installed a very nice kenwood head unit with the cd player. He got a mounting kit, and the wiring kit from circuit city, so everything was plug and play.

bose systems only come in the 3.0 CL...ah man...u got a system from circuit city? damn... wat a waste of money...their equipment is just average...should have taken it to a specialty store...when i asked stores like best buy, good guys, and circuit city why they dont have equipment like diamonds or crystals or focals, they all simply said we dont carry such high end stuff...we got the lower end-entry mid level...

Circut city is alright... Personally I wouldn't buy anything from them. But for low to mid end stuff.. they are ok. They even carry Alpine. I'd stay away from everything else but Alpine and Eclipse. Pioneer, Kenwood, and Clarion are good for the price.... but if u want to go the extra mile... don't go there.

Speakers / subs... do not buy from them. HU are ok... as long as they are Alpine .

I finally got my Eclipse HU back today from the friggin store cause the body shop locked up my headunit and I had to send it back to Eclipse to get unlocked. 6 weeks!

He did not buy the head unit there only the wiring harness, and face plate adaptor. I believe he got the head unit from APEX. Who is a wholesale company out of Ohio where he is a member. I mentioned Circuit City because they sale the wiring harness that will plug into the factory plug, thus telling you what wires are for what.

I went far far away to Virginia Tech for Computer Engineering. Now I'm a consultant doing J2EE (Java) development for an internet e-biz company in Northern Virginia. Its called Proxicom, but we just got bought by Compaq on Thursday! Glad to see that Morris county education is paying off! Maybe I'll see ya on the road up there some time.

Also, if you're interested check out my other post (My stereo is a busted) for updates soon because the dealership that I bought the car from (not the one I take it to for service) might come through and hook me up! If not I'll be installing a headunit and I'll post status there.

Take it easy.

lol... that looks *identical* (minus the bose logo) to the bose unit on my '98 3.0 Prem. Probably paid more for nothing!

Are your speakers paper? Do you have an amp? Mine are paper, no amp (that I found anyway).
