New Stereo

Well, I was wanting to go ahead and get the stock headunit replaced just because I like how it looks in the car. But with a warranty that is about to expire, I don't think I can afford to spend that much on a stereo if it breaks again. I have been looking around and I finally found one that I like. Let me know what you guys think.

haha SONY = Someday Only Not Yet

yeah man sony is very shitty.

I would keep an eye out for Alpine, Clarion, and Eclipse

those are about the only brands that are worth a damn anymore.

They may be expensive...but just hunt for a good bargain, you will find one.

actually what i've continued to hear about sony and have experienced before myself is that sony's low end stuff is really crappy but their high end stuff is actually pretty good. Also another brand you might want to consider is pioneer because their sound quality is pretty good and its not too expensive. About the looks of the deck i think it looks siiiiick i just don't know how convenient it would be to have to use the remote all the time.....

I used to have a SONY just like that in my old Pathfinder. It was like the M-750 or something that had sound field EQ settings. I really liked it. However, I have to say I have went back to Alpine. I just did my system install in my 3.0 this weekend. Had to get rid of the BOSE. Here is my new headunit, it plays MP3's and is really awesome. I'm going to post the rest of my install pics in the Stereo section of this forum. I highly recommend this head unit. Lata!!

Yo 1stGen....You are right, the kit is ugly, but it got the job done for now. Got any pics of your set up? I would really like to find a way to get my stock pocket back under the headunit. Any suggestions? Anyone?

pull the headunit out, take the shitty trim off the back of the headunit, pull out your pocket, stick it under the h/u ...electrical tape the two together, and stick it back in...BOOM, done!

If you want a fancy shmancy head unit the retracts and flips and does all kinds of nice things, then the higher end items are going to be more reliable and offer better warrenties so long as you don't screw up the install. If you just want a nice head unit that does everything you need it to, the most name brands are going to be fine and more importantly, affordable.

I've had my Alpine IVAC800 for almost two years now and not one problem. It cost me a grip but it's worth it. I haven't had a problem with the display & it sounds pretty good.

i used to have basically the same head unit (it was the best mobile ES head unit - before they wacked ES out of the lineup). It was ok IMO - until it got jacked. the thing i didn't like about it was the fact you had to use the remote for EVERTHYING. yeah, havign the entire face black is cool but i would go with soemthing that is more reliable. Oh, and i also hated the dot-matrix screen - anoying as shit.

personally i like clarion, i have a single disc in the dash and a 6 disc cd changer and it ran me a pretty penny but i love it has good color and it is going with my color scheme of the interior. the clarion has never given me problems and has not had any errors and i support clarion 110% i have pics on my sig if you want to see the 6 disc i want to move to the center console but need to do custom work of my own to fit it but thats another story. sony suck bottom line, alpine also has problems of its own but is known in the stereo world for its quality and sound and watt performance. i want to get the clarion screen for the my system but thats another 2000 on its own with dvd so time will wait for it but i love my clarion

note: this picture is the newer model mine is the one in the following picture it is a little cut off but its a lite silver looking and its a lot cleaner and better looking

i had one of the sony, didn't really like it with the two face.....

the problem was i lost the remote...so everytime i had the screen up, to watch the funky graphic, i coundn't change the song until i open it again....

and i didn't want to open it alot of time, too afaid that the motor will blow....

so i got this...

i know this is even worst with motor, but what the heck....

htanks for all the input guys, I think I amstill going to try and get it though. I really like the looks of this one and I have wanted something like it for a long time. I can't really afford a clarion or anything such as that, so Sony will just have to do for now. As long as I have the warranty.
