New to the forum-quick question from a NOOB

So my alternator went out yesterday and in the process of replacing it I of course unhooked the battery...well the stereo locked up and asks me for a code to unlock it. Unfortunately I don't have the original code anywhere...is there anyway to unlock it without having to go to the $tealership?

thanks in advance

Will they give it to me over the phone? Do they need a VIN?

yeah u'll need the VIN number. i dont know if they'll give it over the phone...i dont see why not. If u have any service report done on ur car they should have it written on the form.

1. Pop the hood
2. Look for the fuse box
3. Take off the lid
4. Look at the inside of the lid

You will see a 5-digit combo, all the numbers will be 1 thru 6. It's pretty easy to spot

places to check etc.

1. sides of glove box.
2. trunk lid.
3. under fuse box cover.
4. in manual.
5. there are other places too... those are the most common.
6. get the ID number on back of head unit and call it in.

mine wasn't under the fuse box...

there was the serial # for the stereo on the side of the glovebox though. give that to the dealer, and they'll look up the code for you. should be free (was for me).

good luck

because we have a nice dealer in ft. myers hehehehe...

that said, if anyone in SWFL needs something from an acura dealer, go to Scanlon in S. Ft. Myers. DO NOT GO TO GERMAIN! they are idiots and jerks. Scanlon is very very nice.

The sure way to get the code is to take out your stereo and read the serial number on the back of it. That is the way that Acura keeps the stereos/codes on file, there is no way to get it strictly from your VIN number. if you go there with your serial number and your car, chances are they will give it to you for free...good luck
