More System Questions

So I finally broke down and decided to take the car to car toys to have my amp installed. When I get there tehy tell me that they will not install it becasue they dont mess wiht Bose systems... They told me that each one of my speakers has its own "tiny" amplifier and I have to get new speakers. THey said that they wont hook my stuff up becasue they dont want their name associated with an audio system that is full of on/off pops and engine whine. I am getting really pissed and all I want to do is get everything installed. I know in the other thread where I addressed this some said to power the sub and the seakers with my rockford 301x amp, or to power the sub with the rockford amp and power my speakers wiht my deck (alpine CDA 7897). I am in a place where I have spent quite a while building a box for the woofer, and $1100+ on audio equipment that "wont work with my car" without new speakers. Right now I dont have enough $ to buy new speakers and really need to know what to do... does anyone know how to deal with this, and does the sound really sound crappy if I keep my existing speakers???

Take it to another shop. If that shop can't install in your car, then they're not worth going too. Also, there's only one stock amp that powers the whole system and it's in the trunk under the passenger side tail light.

All that shop had to do is bypass the bose amp and they will be able to use the stock wires to the speakers....

but if you're using stock speakers just change out the HU for now, and use a line converter on the rear speakers to get a signle for the subs. And of course your amp to power the subs.

put the rest in later when u have enough for speakers. I heard the bose speakers have different ohm load. (not sure on this, let the other board members correct me),

you should be able to run the stock speakers I did for little while you do have to bypass the stock amps, also it might not sound as good because of the indapendance on stock spkrs vs amp

i ran the stock speakers to a new amp. i took out the old amp and ran wires from the speakers to the new amp and plugged it in and it worked no problem. if they are saying that each speaker has its own amp they are full os bullshit and i wouldnt go to them again cause they dont know what they are talking about. talk it to another place and get another opinion. they will for sure install them if you pay them to do it no questions asked. how much were they going to charge you for the install?

I was talking to Cartoys and they wanted 88 to install my amp. I ended up calling acura and asking tehm about each spkr having an individual amp and they said that was the legend series not the CL. So its all good but now that I know how easy it is to install the amp I wio it myself. I was treted horribly at Cartoys and will never do business there agina. evben after we figured out the amp thing they started telling me that i still needed different speakers becasue the Bose ones are 1.5 Ohm and the amp is 4 or 8 or whatever and that i would fry everything.

So my final question is do i have to run any wires to my deck form the amp or are they all present and all i have to do is transfer teh wires from the stock amp to my aftermakret amp? i have an amp wiring kit and i know that i have to run teh power and ground cables but what about the RCA cables and the remote power on cable??? Let me know, thanks for all the awesome help guys I would nevber be able ot do this kind of stuff without all ur great advice.

Not sure about the wiring question but ALL OF THE BOSE SPEAKERS ARE 4 ohm (except maybe the little component tweeters). I replaced my 6.5 and 6x9 speakers myself and on the back of the bose speakers was stamped 4 ohm! GOD those people at cartoys sound like such friggin morons.

When I first got my car I wanted to replace all my speakers, but I had a bad experience replacing the ones in the rear deck. So, I just wanted to have circuit city install them, which they did. So, I started talking to the installer about other things like adding an amp for my speakers. He said that it can't be done, with bose and that there would be too much interference. It seemed like he was even mad that I had brought it up. However, he never mentioned anything about an amp. I wish I knew what I know now about my car, so I could have thrown it back in his face.

Your amp needs 4 wires to work.

POWER - goes to the battery. Needs a fuse near the battery.

GROUND - goes to any solid ground near the amp

RCA'S - Goes to the head unit (cd player)

REMOTE - Goes to the head unit (cd player)
(usualy a little blue wire)

The POWER and RCA'S should be run on DIFFRENT sides of the car. Haveing them close together can result in unwanted signals comming out of your speakers. (your speakers will whine with the engine rpms)

Hope that helps

That's really bad for a business. I know the owner of a car stereo shop back home(I'm at school now) and he would install anything, at a decent price. He would cut me a deal because I was buying stuff there so often. Usually the smaller shops are more concerned with the customers than just the bottom line.

Since you're doing it yourself I would recommend finding a friend that knows a lot about stereos and have him help you. It will make it go by a lot easier.

damn arabs! almost every audio shop in Ca. is run by arabs that try to rip everyone off. My friend took his truck in and bought 2 12's and an amp. All fosgate. Anyway, they told him they were installing a 1000W amp, but when he finally checked behind his seat a month later, it says 400W right on the amp.
