Mono Channel Amp

I'm looking into getting a decent mono channel amp for my accord. I'm splitting my old system into my 2 cars. Just ordered the boxes. Gunna be running one 12" Solobaric in each. My ac getting the 500a2 Rockford Power that I had pushing both of them but i need an fairly inexpensive amp for my chick. Not sure what brands give good, clean power without breaking the bank.

Absolutely love the solobarics...only pushin 500 watts to both (no where near their potential) and it really thumps, they're rated at 1500 watt max each and they're way underpowered. So my system pretty much gunna sound just as loud with just the one sub.

Anyone got any ideas for my accord??

Well it all depend on what I'm getting. I'm looking to spend 200-300 on a decent amp. I am fully aware that you get what you pay for. I've had a bunch of sysytems. I normally stick with Rockford Power amps cuz that's what I know.(had 3 power series before) but don't see any on ebay and new they're damn expensive. the punch series suck

My first amp was a Soundstream. Are there better models to look for..like Rockford power is good but punch (lower end) is shit. Not sure what is the upper model for soundstream.

Anyone have any experience with Kicker? the subs are bad ass

Bring on the flame but I got an 800watt sony amp for $150(canadian) and it pushes my 2 rockford 10's pretty hard. Maybe its just me since I had a $60 welfare brand one, but I like this sony one and it looks pretty too.

jl 250/1 or 500/1 run about 300 to 600 retail and cheaper on ebay or craigs list.

both very nice. depends on how power hungry your subs are.

lanzar opti series. cheap inexpensive power. class d too. opti2000d going for about 250 on ebay. puts out 2000 watts at .5 ohms. Or hifonics brutus or zeus series. Cheap power. If you want "clean power" go with ppi , JL , arc audio , or zapco but those cost too damn much.

Found this amp on ebay...RMS wattage is 300, peak is 600.

SD97cl, is this the one that you're talking about. If you have personal experience with this amp I'd go and grab it but that RMS 300 scares me a little. You think this amp produces clean power?

Just something to throw out there: on amps like this that have state they will put out the same power into a range of impedances...that's not really true, at least at this price point. No <$1000 amp is going to have real current limiting. The amp may be able to limit it's input sensitivity some, but you could still just drive it harder.

Basically what I'm saying is that this amp at 4 ohm will probably be close to its rated specs (300). At the low end of it's impedance range, 1 ohm, it's very believable that it has the capability to put out more. It should have around twice that in reserve at 1 ohm, but it's debabtable whether you can get it out of the amp or not...

What model Solobarics do you have? Dual 2 or 4 ohm voice coils?

The x600.1 was benchtested by some guys and got like 800+ watts from it.

that is true . the more voltage you give an amp the more it will put out. some amps are rated at 12.4 volts and the average car runs about 14.4 volts and as you go to lower impedances , the amp should pull out more power but that's if the amp is stable at that ohm.

Jl is good but is too expensive. You can get better quality amps for cheaper. I've heard kenwood is alright.

Ya it's for my chick(my accord). I gave it to her with a system and feel bad ripping it out without replacing. I'm gunna have to do some searching. I have a power acoustic 800x4 but thats not gunna work for 1 sub

Not sure what model my solo's are. Installed them and tossed the box last year. They were the upper model though. they were damn expensive though. Worth every penny IMO. Don't think I could blow them if I tried.

I'd trade the power acoustic 800 4 channel for a 2 channel or mono. Never been used. i installed it in my accord and took it our 10 minutes later because my kicker 2 channel was a better fit. Any takers???

I bought the amp for about 200.

I wasn't even talking about the supply voltage, that's a whole 'nother discussion. Some amps will put out more with 14.4, some don't care - depends on the topology of the amp, etc.

What the model of that amp? Just to throw this out there, you could use it and depending on the specs, it might work just fine. Bridge both channel sets to mono. Now you have two channels of higher power. Put one on each voice coil (as far as I know all Solos are dual voice coil).

Just have to make sure they are exactly the same output level, and that the polarity is absolutly correct - else the voice coil windings will want to fight each other (bad news).

is that 800 max power ? PA usually named their amps with max wattage output instead of rms.
