metallic screeching from back wheels

Hey all,

started receiving a wierd highpitched screeching sound from my back wheels since 2 days ago. It tends to occur more when I turn, but at 30 mph, it also occasionally can be heard. It sounds like some metal parts are faintly grazing each other, and it doesn't affect the car's movement (atleast not noticeably)

Its not constant, quite erratic actually, doesn't necessarily come when I go over a bump. It never comes when I press the brakes (I thought it was a brake issue at first)

What do you guys reckon? The closest thing to the sound is that incredibly annoying sound a chalk can make on a blackboard, but this sound isn't quite as annoying, only distressing. I'm in Mexico right now, and my car will be looked at by a Honda dealership (no Acura here), and I'd like to go in there with an armful of ideas before giving my precious over to them. My precious...

Thanks in advance, appreciate your help.

that would be your brakes, I had the same problem, and I was amazed when the sound became constant no matter what the car was doing, and yes when I pressed the brakes, the sound also went away. Take it too a brake shop and get a free estimate before you get raped by honda/acura

sounds like your rear brakes are worn. on these cars they are extremely easy to replace. good luck

I had a similar problem when I first purchased my CL-S...a small stone had worked its way between the rotor and backing plate. It made one heck of a racket...but an easy fix...thankfully...

Yeash....it's the brakes. Just did mine last week. The sound only gets worse.

You're gonna need a big socket(1/2" drive) and also a combo wrench because one of the caliper mounting bolt sits almost back to back against the emergency brake mechanism, which won't allow a socket to fit.

To reset the caliper pistons, you're gonna need to turn the pistons clock-wise. It screws back....odd huh? Use the head of a smaller combo wench to act as a BIG screwdriver. The turing slots are like 1/4" wide. You'll see what I'm talking about.

damond , mbackus , nice99ac22 , kc cl 1785 , cheers for ur help guys

one question more: if the brake pads are worn, I can understand it screeching when I brake. But why the screeching when I am accelerating? Surely the brake shouldn't be scraping the wheel with or without worn brakes...

ok, i know this, it is a mecanism that is on the brake calaper that is metal and it touches and grinds on your rotor when you are too low on your pads. it is like a saftey mechanism

Thats sweet. You think I can get through 2 days of very light driving (less than 10 miles per day) without fucking up my rotor?

My front wheels don't screech, odd that only the rear pads been eaten.

Waiting for the day they got organic living brake pads that grow back, now that would be something else.

The pad itself has a sensor built in...that makes noise when you accelerate. You can drive on it...if you can feel metal on metal...pad on rotor that isnt good, obviously. Just change it as soon as possible.

maybe a day if that but dont slam on your brakes at all and hey if you get in a accident your brakes wont do shit think about that i would just get them fixed cause they could ultimately cause damage to the rotors if you wait too long i have had that happen to my car before
