Making your lude shifter shorter: JDM gettho style

After installing my prelude shifter, I noticed a big difference in height and feel but I still wanted something shorter. I got inspired by my brother who drilled out his shift knob on his E36. I used my JDM lude shift knob which is the same knob as the stock CL except this one is from Japan and it's all used up and such. First thing I did was cut off the plastic clip for the boot using a reciprocating saw I then drilled with a 1/2" bit about 2/3's of the way in the shifter and then I switched to a smaller bit. I used a bit just a tad smaller than the actual shifter thread diameter. I drilled up until I saw the bit pushing up on the leather. I installed it in the car and WOW what a difference 5 minutes can make... It shortened the shifter a little more than 3/4's of an inch. I also fabbed up a custom ring for the shift boot out of a rubber grommet I purchased at the hardware store... The next step is to do it to my RSX knob...
Stock CL shifter with RSX knob

Prelude shifter with RSX knob

Height difference between RSX and JDM lude knob (If I do the same process to the RSX knob, it should be even shorter since the knob is a little smaller)

Rubber grommet mod (held in place with a tiny zip tie on the underside)

Inside of the modified JDM knob

Finished product... Knob is ugly but you get the idea

I could do a DIY if there is enough interest...
