key ques.

do our keys have transponder chips in them?

they have chips in them, yes. You cant just cut a blank and make it work, it has to be a specific key with that ignition.

the 97 cl's dont but the 98 and 99 do.. it was only $2 to have a new key cut at the dealer for me cause i have a 97

yeah i am tryin to see if i can get the dude in the tl forum thats makin the 07 tl switchblade keys fit older tls to see if its the same type of key as my 97 cl (witch it looks the same ) and i took a 06 tl key and stuck it in my ignition and it gilded in perfect and i compared them and there the same so im thinkin it will work. plus since i dont need a transponder chip thats even better

i think so because i compared my 97 key to a 06 tl key and its exactly the same design except the 97 cl key has no chip in it, i pmed flbusa about it but hes yet to pm back so when he does ill let you guys know what he says

the thing with the key, is that the remote....isnt the same layout as our remote...so you gotta figure out a way to wire it so it uses the same transponder as our remotes, but you can use the buttons from the other remote...my


I wanted to do that mod so bad, but Im kinda saving this as a rainy day project hehe

yeah i just called the acura dealership and they said that only the remotes for the 97-99 cls would work on our cars but i am thinking if i could take the "guts" out of my old remote and use it in the new one idk how hard this would be but i guess im gonna try it and see so ill update u guys ass soon as i get my key in from flbusa

U can do a swap with a second gen remote if they have the right FCC id

But I doubt the 07 will be anywhere close, and squeazing our innards into a key that small would be tricky, g'luck though

yes but the fcc id has to be similar, search for 2nd gen remote swap it'll detail what needs done
