just switched to MOBILE 1 Synthetic
I just went to mobile 1 synthetic oil at 38k, shouldn't be any of a problem right? How much will this improve anything, if it even does so at all?

I've run Mobil 1 since it came out! I change the oil about every 7000 mile or so, and I've had no problems (in approx 8 different cars).
Quick story:
My brother-in-law and I pulled the engine out of his (then later, mine) 1987 Chevy Camaro to rebuild it. To our surprise, everything was within factory specs; even after 220,000 miles on Mobil 1!!!!!!!!
We just put it back together, and it's still running today (over 250,000 miles)!!!!!!
Just use a quality oil filter, and you should be fine!

when changing to synthetic oil after regular oil after a certain number of miles, don't you have to "bleed" the engine first? like, drain the reg oil, put synthetic in, go for a hundred miles or so, then drain that and put in synthetic again? i was informed you had to do this.

10w30 is heavier, its what I use, when your engine gets older it needs a heavier lubrication
at 65,000 I switched from 5w30, to 10w30
if you have nitrous or turbo, 10w30/40 is recomended cause your engine has to work harder
