Just bought my CL but need advice on Rack&Pinon

Hi,
Just bought a 1999 Acura CL 2.3 (4 CY). I'm turning over a new leaf and will be going back to school in late August. I wanted a used Acura to be my daily driver, which will be a 2.5 hour RT. Wish me luck.

Anyway, the previous owner was upfront with me about the leaking Power Steering fluid and said his mechanic indicated it needed new O rings in the Rack and Pinion Assembly. His mechanic said it was just easier to replace the entire unit. The previous owner recommend this rebuilt part on ebay. See below:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-1994-Honda-Accord-4CYL-Rack-and-Pinion-Assembly-/220819438299?fits=Year:1999|Make:Acura|Model:CL&ha sh=item3369dd3adb&item=220819438299&pt=Motors_Car_ Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

Since I am new to Acura, I was wondering if any on the forum had experience with this part off ebay? Seems like a good price and the seller has good reviews. Just want to be sure I do this right.

One of the shocks is also gone so I thought I should at least replace both rear shocks. Any recommendations for them as well?

Never been a Honda/Acura owner. Looking forward to the experience!

That part should be fine, there are a ton of R&P rebuild companies on ebay so it may be hard to find someone who has used that company specifically. But the auction looks legit and it has a lifetime warranty. I say go for it

Okay, thanks guys. I called a Independent shop and he said I should bring it to him before buying the entire part. Saying he might could save me money if the leak is in a certain place. Also, they said they rarely have to replace rack and pinion or struts. Overall, they just seemed like my problem was rather rare. Since I am going by what the previous owner said I may just take them up on it and have it checked out first before buying the part.

BTW, rock auto has a similar re manufactured part with lifetime warranty for about 5 bucks more. There core charge is more though.

Hi guys, bought the part. Decided to just go with advance auto. Picked up the outer tie rod ends too. Got a couple of buddies that are going to help me install it but they have did this repair on an Acura. Although they have a ton of experience, I just want to be sure there are no surprises. Anything special one would need to do. What about knocking something loose to remove part. Guy at Advance was saying something about that.

The inner tie rods can be a bitch without a crows foot wrench but if you take the whole unit off it may not be an issue. On the car though, my mechanic at the time just cut them out to save headaches. You might as well get new ones to go with the new rack unless they come on it already.
