really? how many competitions have you seen with prefab boxes winning anything?
a custom box will allow you to put it in the perfect spot, use multiple woofers, change tuning frequency, and adapt teh woofer to your taste in music

well i guess we have a different understanding of the word, it is pre fabribated in the sense that you dont have to put anythign together just hook the speaker wire to the box and your set... as opposed to doing the hours of math and work that i normally think of when someone says sub enclosure

2 entries found for prefabricated.
pre·fab·ri·cate Audio pronunciation of "prefabricated" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pr-fbr-kt)
tr.v. pre·fab·ri·cat·ed, pre·fab·ri·cat·ing, pre·fab·ri·cates
1. To manufacture (a building or section of a building, for example) in advance, especially in standard sections that can be easily shipped and assembled.
2. To make up, construct, or develop in an artificial, unoriginal, or stereotypic manner.
i think that my usage fits both definitions correctly

they sell the sub and the box together for a reason.
1- to make money
2- because it is made for the sub, im sure you can make an enclosure that sounds
better worse or the same, but it definately makes the sub perform the way it should.
- most likely an average box will not accomodate what the W7 needs.
this box is expensive for a reason besides JL "ripping you off".
It is high - quality. It may not look so tough, but it is clearly a quality product, I've heard it inside
of a VW Golf (the exact box) and it sounded amazing

an average box, what the hell is that?
im not sure about the high quality, what size mdf do they use, what type of adhesive, size screws and number, did they sounddeaden the interior? what will the port velocity be, what is the tuning frequency, how much port noise is there, these are all important to me, and all controlable when you make the box yourself, which may i add is cheaper.
how many other w7 setups have you heard, its a great sub im sure it would sound great even in a mediocre enclosure... the test is what is practical and makes it sound the best, also interior volume is different in a cl and a golf, and isnt the golf a HB? which way was the sub firing, just out of curiousity
