J32a2 swap into a 97 acura cl 3.0 4-speed
Hello. I'm new in this forum and its my first time posting here. my old engine J30A1 finally gave up @ 275,000 miles, so i decided to swap a J32A2 motor while retaining the stock 4-speed AUTO tranny. The J32A2 engine has been swapped into the car with the 4-speed auto tranny already with a few other problems and issues.
- Since I still have ther J30A1 ECU, We had to swap 1 CAM from the J30A1 to the new J32A2 engine and run distributor ignition, therefore not being able to use the coil-on plugs direct ignitions (TEMPORARILY, as of now 'until J32a2 ECU and harness swap) also, as another conflict due to the J30A1 ECU, I am utilizing the J30A1 intake manifold, due to the fact that the J32A2 intake manifold has a sensor that is controled by the ECU for the 2-stage intake runners, and that the J30A1 ECU has no control or connection for this.
I plan to convert this to the actual J32A2 ECU and complete Engine/cabin harnesses. I do not know however what else i will be needing since the tranny I am using, will be the 4-speed AUTO from the J30A1. inwhich the ECU of the J32A2 has controls and programs for the 6-speed Manual and 5-speed auto.
Will the J32A2 engine and ecu still work with my 4-speed auto tranny or will I need some kind of HACK or MOD or ECU reflashing to to make this work flawless with my J32A2/4-auto swap.
Also, WHat J32A2 ECU Do I need the 6MT or the %AUTO ECU?
As well, WHat other parameters/ needs conversions DO i need in order for the engine & Tranny wont go into LIMP-MODE?!
All your help guys will be truly appreciated.
Call me if you can too. 661-8037262
Thanks

Well I know that this thread hasn't been messed with lately but I am doing the same thing but swapping a manual 6 speed trans from a j30a4. The good thing about the ECU in the the 1997 CL is that you don't have an immobilizer to deal with but yes you still run distributor. Well I am having a machine shop cut my cams from the J32A2 to take a dizzy. The heads are the same so it will all fit without a problem. The intake manifold is a different issue. Don't know yet if the manifold will clear but I will figure that out. The old CL ECU is like a P28 in that it doesn't take much to make it from an auto ECU to a manual. It just takes tricking the ecu. Get rid of the auto trans. It wasn't designed for power. It was designed for economy.
