"NOT compatible with vehicles that have the standard AM/FM radio with a single disc satellite-mounted CD player."
the facory headunit is exactly this right? i don't get it.
I am "that guy who did the line in on his stock radio."
That link to logjam is correct. However the problem is that Acura put 2 different types of radios in the 99CL (and possibly others, I just know about the 99 since that is what I have.) Take out the radio and look at the back. You will see a jack in the back - it's for the factory CD-changer.
Count the number of pins it needs. It will be either 8-pin round connector (that's what I had) or a 14-pin square connector.
Then go to this page:

I bought the Blitzsafe and so I can vouch for it, BUT I just now noticed that the P.I.E. brand AUX-IN adapters are $20 cheaper.... I recommend that you buy that instead. It's all the same really, but it's up to you. READ THE FINE PRINT. Make sure the one you are buying is the right one: 8-pin or 14-pin.
After you have your AUX-IN you will also need:
1) A Ground Loop Isolator ($5-$10 at Radioshack)
2) A 2nd cig adapter that taps-into the existing cig adapter ($5-10 @ Radioshack)
3) A 3.5mm mini-jack to RCA adapter ($2-5 @ Radioshack)
*4) The Belkin iPod Charger with built-in Line-out ($40)

Install it yourself OR take all that crap to BestBuy and have them install it. It will cost $32+tax to install at BestBuy. ($16 to take out radio and $16 to put it back in)
The Belkin is optional. You can get a simple ipod charger for about $9 online BUT the reason I say use the Belkin it uses the dock connector to get sound as well as charge your ipod. If you use a regular charger you have to plug something into the headphone jack and feed it behind the dash to connect to the AUX adapter. That will mean 2 wires hanging out of your dash instead of 1. 1 of the wires will be white since almost all ipod chargers are white and 1 of the wires will be black since most minijack-RCA adapters are black. GHETTO.
Cleaner is better, right? Get the Belkin.
One thing though. The Belkin has a volume dial to control how much signal it sends from the line signal. If that dial is off you won't hear anything, so....
After they install everything, BEFORE they put everythign back, power the car and put your car radio on or a CD in the CD player. Get the volume to normal, then switch to the ipod (hit the CD button to switch from "cd-changer" (aka ipod) to in-dash CD) and set the volume dial on the Belkin so that the volume matches. Don't turn the volume dial too much on the Belkin since you WILL get nasty distortion. Keep the dial about 1/3 or some from the bottom at max. The built-in amp in that thing is crap.
I know it sounds like a lot, but it is REALLY quite simple. My install took about 30 minutes tops.

Dude if you want a sweet IPOD setup in your CL I would do it like this. I have a 98 CL 3.0 with the Bose system. I used Dension's ice-link kit and installed the ipod to the CD changer at the back of the factory unit. The dension unit is nice because it integrates with the factory control so I can view and control my ipod if i want but my stereo controls also work this includes the control from the stereing wheel when advancing tracks. when the car is off or using the cd player or radio it puts the ipod to sleep and starts the charging sequence. if you have any questions or want a sample picture PM me

If it was that simple, why the heck would I write that long tutorial for you? Did you not read my previous post? If you have a factory headunit, you MUST use an aux-in adapter.
wtf.... reading comprehension.
