ipod hookup

This may have been asked a few times, but I'm stumped.

What is the best (and most cost effective) way to hook up an ipod to my stock radio.

I don't want to do wireless or RF adapters.

I was looking at the iCruze, but 1) Best Buy fucked up the install, and said it doesnt work, 2)supposedly Monster Cable recalled the iCruze.

I don't know what options are there.

I am debating a new head unit, but I want something that can alow me to maintain use of my steering wheel controls

You can get a AIWA brand one.. for around $100 that has a aux input.. but yeah u lose the steering wheel controls. or there was a DIY somewhere on this forum that shows you how to make a input.. but the parts will still cost around $100.. but u get the steering wheel controls just takes some time.

most new decks have an audio imput built in to either the front or the back. If they are in the back you can get a Y adapter to convert the rca's to a mini plug. Thats what i did.

Never EVER get anything installed by best buy.

i think your best cheapest bet is to do the thing in the above thread. you can buy the little holders to hold your ipod that sit right in your cupholder, but our cuphoulders actually hold that little bastard pretty good.

What kind of deck to you have?

I have an alpine deck, and alpine makes an interface that connects to the back of the radio. Then you can tune your iPod through the HU, without needing access to the iPod. Works beautifully. I know that other manufactors make this same type of thing also. You might want to check into this.

I may have a solution. But it will require you to get a new deck. I have a kenwood deck, and if you got this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IKLb1yS...550&I=113IP500
You would be able to control your ipod through your deck. You would lose your steering wheel controls but may gain a remote control depending on the deck you get. They have those adapters for alpine and a bunch of different brands..... Plus if you dont have the bose system you will get better sound quality throught the aftermarket deck...
