Installed my own springs!

I am proud to announce that my friend and I just installed my neuspeed sport springs today. We had a few minor complications, but still got them installed in a little over 3 hours. Ive never done anything like this and it shows that it can be done, so give it a try. You get a good feeling of self worth afterwards. I also put in my white face gauges, but that was easy, thanks for the instructions Ross.

Congrats!

I'm thinking of putting some on myself.

Any tips (mainly, what tools, etc. do you need)?

Thanks!

My friend works part time at uhaul, so we went in there tonight. We just used a regular floor jack, tork wrench, and a couple of other little sockets. The fronts were easy to get off, but at the bottom of the back shocks the bolts were into the bushings and we couldnt get them off. So we had to take all the bolts out of the top of the strut in the trunk and pull it out that way. Kind of a pain in the ass but we got it done. I would say definately have somebody help you in case that happens, good luck man.

2 years ago when i lowered mine i thought about doing it my self, but i looked at it like as it would take me 8 hours to lower it, or Nu Image could do it in 45 minutes, there wasnt too much debating

Congrats. Its so nice to do something yourself especially something big like this. It makes the mod so much better.

Do you think you could post some instructions for everyone on here sometime. I would really appreciate it

I'm thinking about installing mine myself (springs/shocks)...but if something goes wrong or acts a little funny I have someone to blame if I take it in to a shop.

Yeah, Ill try to get some instructions up sometime soon. You will probably also need spring compressors. You can take them of without them, just look out for windows. I tried one without them and almost took out a big ass window in the bay door

More than likely you will have to buy new strut tops as well if you want to go that route. Most of the strut I have seen don't come with this.

Yeah, you can take them off and take them to a shop if you want. If your going to take them off yourself you might ass well take the springs off too, thats the easy part. If you dont have spring compressors it can still be done. Lay the spring on its side and take the bolt off the top. Just aim wisely. You dont need compressors the get the springs back on the are a couple of inches shorter than the stock ones. Good luck man.

You are crazy!!
Those fronts are really compressed. That could be a lethal weapon.

or you could just rent a spring compressor for the day from a cuto store......... it's usually 60 bucks. but thats just a security deposit.

I put the springs on my car with the help of some friends also a long time ago.

I kid you not, do not take out the front springs without a spring compressor in place. That thing is seriously compressed and the spring/strut will go flying as soon as the nut comes off. I know, because I took one of them out with an air-gun/wrench which absorbed most of the back force. But if you just try to do it with a regular wrench with someone holding onto the spring, I can guarantee you people will get hurt.

Just a friendly warning to the do-it-yourselfers! Not saying that you shouldn't, just make sure you got the tools to do it safely.

you guys are no fun at all.. thats the most fun out of doing suspension, shooting the springs all over the place.. they've taken a good chunk of my leg out.. but thats about it.. hell when i put a complete new assembly in a car, and theres no need to take the springs out of the old shocks/struts, i still do it .. and we even have a big ass shop spring compressor.. fuckem
