initial thoughts on header

i got my obx header installed last weekend. first off: i think it was dustbuster who wrote some instructions on how to bend the header to fit. anyway, after bolting the header and down pipe up as much as possible i saw no way his method could work. forst it wont reach the cat or the rear header, also bending it the that direction seems that it would move the down pipe in the wrong direction that it needs to go. maybe the header i got was wierd? at any rate i seriously don't mean to talk shit about dust at all, just what i observed, thats all. no offence dust!

anyway the muffler shop charged me $75 to modify it (which was actually a lot of work) so overall price was around $350, fuck of a lot better than $1200 for compech's headers. i drove it with out resetting the ecu untill today (didnt notice much difference) , but the car actually seems quieter (interesting i think), i reset the ecu today and WOW, big difference, definitely more hp throughout the powerband! i would highly recommend.

oh and dust, maybe after reading this we can clear up the confusion im having...i might have read some of your instructions wrong or somethin

the muffler shop had to extend the down tube to the cat and re-route the down pipe to the rear header for it to fit. i saw no other way it would work...

hmm.. I didn't fully understand the process you used to fix the headers. Perhaps you got headers for the wrong car maybe... where did you get them from anyways? If it was off of eday then they may have not really been OBX's or soemthing like that. Strange that it woudl be such a problem for you and yet other people seemed to have no install problems... Other than the bending of course.

they are definetly obx header, engraved right into it. i got them from...i dont recall, but not ebay..to reset the ecu for mods. unhook one of the battery cables for 15 min. then start the car with out hitting the gas, and let idle for 15 min, this resets the ecu and lets the ride get used to the new mod

Hmm so what kind of mods should this be done for?

Obviously Headers.

How about springs, sways, etc?

Thanks

oh shit, springs, sways, hell no! just anything that affect the engine. it just helps the engine "regognize" the new mod...somehow...sounds like an urban myth, but i will attest it really works

lets put it this way. if it is not connected to the engine directly you dont need to reset the ecu

negative ghost rider..the ECU does reset its fuel maps if its disconnected a long time....more air flow(intake), exhaust(header) will cause it to be diffrent, not a big diffrence but it does affect it somewhat

I think he did have a shop bend it. I think he basically got the headers on and couldn't bend it, so he took it to a shop and they did that. I am pretty sure. Will look for the post to see if he did do that.

jbpray :

I follow the thread of dustbuster and everything works 4 me.

1st : I tight the bolts by hand for the front header and the rear.
2nd : I tight the bolts by hand that goes to each header (long pipe).
3rd : I tight the bolts that goes to the catback qith a rochet.

After that I tight all of them and everything works perfectly!

I will check the clerance between the header and the engine oil., mine is too near and i think i'll some knock on there when i drive.
