Ignition Switch Recall '97-'99

Hey check out this CL '97-'99 recall:

http://beta.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=12201

I went to the owner's link site on acura.com typed in the VIN for my '98 CL and it came up as being covered under the recall. Funny, like a month ago I was at the dealer saying it wouldn't start and they said they were unable to reproduce the problem.

i ran my VIN on the acura.com site....my car is part of the recall.

so i called los gatos acura asking about the recall. he ran my VIN and said that my car was NOT part of a recall. I told him about the ignition switch recall, and he says he didn't know anything about it. great.

I am a victim also. Ill think Ill get it replaced when I go in for my free emissions test and plug/ wire change at 75,000 miles. Im at a little over 70,000 now, it wont take me long to get there. I was having problems with my car starting sometimes, I would turn the key and it wouldnt do anything for the first 10 or so trys. Then all of the sudden it would start up, I hope this is the problem.

i got that shit replaced a year ago, paid $200 out of my pocket for it because the dealership couldn't reproduce the problem. i just got an independent guy to do it, he reproduced the problem within 3 seconds. i hate dealerships, and i hate that i had to pay for it now that i know it was recall.

ta ta.... i'm in. now the shit is i don't know if acura will still cover the recall if the vehicle has been shipped oversea (in my case). I only have a honda dealer here and they same it's not cover but i still want to hear it from acura.

about the acrua recall info on the acura site is kinda weird cuz i don't see anything about the egr valve recall. i thought mine is part of the recall and i recently has to take it in to have the valve clean. i need to call acura's hotline next week.

It says on acura's site in the recall FAQ that if you had it replaced already they'll re-emburse you.

hence the "less than 3/10ths of one percent of affected vehicles have experienced switch problems."

Where do they come up with those stats... number of cars that have had the ignition switch replaced - that they know of? Most of us were just told the problem wasn't reproduceable - i'm sure it wasn't reported.

i had it replaced through an independent guy, he doesn't even own a shop, he just did me a favor by doing the work on my car; therefore i have no records of the ignition replacement.

Mine is affected also, but I am not experiencing any problem.. Will ACURA still replace it.

I also got a notice for a recall for EGR System Clogging but it says to bring the car in only if my check engine light turns on. What type of bullshit is that. Has anyone brought in there car anyways.

Even if you have no problem right now, Acura will replace it. It's more of a preventive measure than anything else. I just called my local dealer and they said they will start getting parts in about June 10th, so i'm gonna call next week and make an appointment ASAP. I've noticed that my car has been startin a lil funny.

I tried to see on the canadian site www.acura.ca and they don't have an owner's link section nor a recall section... Is this recall for cars sold in the states? I know that all first gen CLs were manufactered in the states but i don't know if the recall only applies to the Aerican market... I will wait and see...

I'm going to look into this and see if I can bring it in for all the problem areas at once but I want to be sure to take it to the right place that won't try to rip me off.
One place around me said that if the engine light wasn't coming on or i wasnt having problems with it that I couldn't bring it in for the EGR valve problem. They said it's not a "recall" but just a maintenence bulletin that lets dealerships know what a problem is when it comes in the door.

I'd like to get it all done at the same time...

I don't think that's the case, but I'm not sure. You can read it here.
