Idling problem!

When I turn the car on and it's still even in park, the RPMs rise to about 2000-2500 and then drop to 500 or so. It keeps on repeating this and it's pissing me off because I know that's not right.

I searched around and it seems that the problem might be the idle air control valve. Does this sound right? How much is it to fix?

Try disconnecting the idle air control valve and see if problem is fixed. It may idle real low, but should be stable w/ AC OFF. CEL will come on and you'll need to reset ECU by puling the 7.5A BackUp fuse for 20 secs.

A massive air leak will cause unstable idle. Check PCV hoses for good connection and PCV functioning correctly (rattles when shaken). It should allow air flow one direction and check air flow in other.

Other possibilities are loose vacuum line somewhere.

good luck

I think I have this same problem....but mine hasn't fixed itself lol

It's really rough on the tranny, so I'd like to take care of it. Any pictures of where the idle valve control is or what it looks like?

thanks.

haha, mine did that when i first bought the car, i just filled th gas tank up and it went away. i think it could have been that it was sitting in the car lot for a period of time.

the problem is most likely your idle air control valve. these things get clogged up and jammed up easily, simply remove this piece from your vehicle, throughly spray with carb cleaner to cleanliness, and replace, should work, if not, you have to replace with a new one.

hope this helps u save some $$$

laters.

i replaced mine a while ago, and i still have the old one.
it probably just needs a good cleaning, but i didnt have time to clean it and put it back in and find out i might need a new one anyway.
if yours doesnt work after the cleaning, i can send you my old one and you can try that.
just pay shipping and maybe youll save 100 bucks

def the iac.. or if you get air in to the coolant system, the coolant temp sensor the one with more than one wire. will not read and cause a surging idle.
