I think my starter is going. Is it?

Last night after work my car didn't do shit when I turned my keys......all the accessory lights, heater, and radio came on but no cranking/turning soound....dead silence. After trying over and over again the thing fianlly started.

this morning turned the keys...nothing.......... got it to start on the 3rd attempt.

My question is.. do the extended warranty cover the starter? If it's indeed the starter thats fucked up.

the warranty should definatly cover it. and it sounds like its your starter or the electrics conecting to it.

I too have a 1997 3.0CL and I had to replace my starter last spring, and it was covered under warranty/extended warranty.

is it normal sometimes for the engine to have to crank 4 or 5 time before it starts. and this has happened to me on mild days as well as cold ones.

You should hear some kind of click of the celinoid engaging, if not it could be a ground problem. If you have a bad ground usually your lights will work and when you turn the key they cut off for a second. If you here the celinoid, then it may be a starter problem. I would clean the electrical posts on the battery and starter. My last car, when the starter went it was gone.

what you do is take your battery out and take it to like autozone or somewhere and have them test it. if its good its most likely either your starter or your alternator. can you play your stereo? if not its the alternator if you can then its your starter i bet.

Had this problem too, make sure your negative battery cable is down tight...
