I Think My Cheap-Ass Amp Blew??? :(
Listening to tunes on my way home from work last night, and the music stopped!
There is power to the head unit and the amp, but no sound.
When I turn the head unit on, I get anywhere from 1/2 - 2 seconds worth of music, then it stops! I turn the head unit off, then seconds later, turn it back on, and I get the same thing (a blip of sound, then nothing!
Any suggestions?
Thanks

i unhooked the amp and directly connected the speakers to the head and the same thing happened, short circuit or something
i just replaced the head
if it works, you know your amp is fryed

Rick,
The Pyramid is toast man. I say start looking for another Amp and then lets plan a trip up to see your uncle again! Your head unit wouldn't even give you the 1 second of sound if it were damaged goods. The other possibility is a short somewhere, but you'd have to trace all the wiring and test signals to find the short.
Go with a new amp, I'll help you look and find a good one!

If it was a fuse, it would not work at all..... Sounds like the thermal protection deal that pyramid amps are known for. Anyways, to tell ya the truth man, pyramid is NOT A GOOD BRAND. A friend of mine had his catch on fire in the back of his car - NOT GOOD! Anyways, I think you should assume that the amp is fried and move on from there. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....

Thanks to all who responded! I fear that it's fried! :'(
I just spoke to my Uncle (an audio specialist), and he gave me some pointers. I'll check the system out in the AM, and see if it's something simple.
If not, then I'm without tunes for a while.
I just spent $650 on headers.

rick .......
you never cease to amaze me.
drop the pyramid and get an alpine digital or something.
just make sure that you buy something with an external fuse (not rockford :sqnteek: )
