Just got a visit from my friendly local neighbourhood UPS man last night too!!!
I only got the short ram too,(3.0) Man, thats a mean sounding unit. I just got to get used to that f'd up humm, and whistle.

Has anyone put a K&N cone on a generic short ram pipe? if so, did it sound any different?

I use to have a K&N on a generic and it was the same sound. It's a better filter though. Also to lessen the whistle turn the AC off

i dont think its the filter part thats making the noise... a few days ago, i left my car idle without the filter and it makes the same sound... i think its just the pipe that makes the sound

I thought the CAI or short ram were bad on the 3.0, that is what I heard, and that is why I dont have one. I do have the K&N filter though (in the stock airbox)

Is this true, or should I get to buying the CAI?

why would it be bad? It's definately the best beginner mod for the car! Not much HP, but a little, it'll help w/ gas mileage and it sounds GREAT

I cant wait to get an intake for my car, yes the few HP will be nice but I really want that hummmm.

99Black3.0: I am prety sure that the cone style air filters allow much more air to get sucked in that the rectangle ones in our air box do. I bet switching to a CAI will give you a few more HP, i dont know if you could tell though

I'm still not used to it yet, I haven't taken my foot out of it yet. I give it another week for the novalty to wear off. then I'll get better gas milage. The V6 sounds SO crazy @ WOT
I love vtec!

yeah, with the intake, the sound is amazing, my rpms gets up there constantly, just so hard to not punch the gas. and what rpms does vtec kick in, someone told me 5000 rpms, but not sure.

anyways, everyone liked the way my car sounds, even my brother with his TT thought my car sounded nice, i think it sounds like a V6, maybe louder. anyways, intake is definately a must.

I've been on this board and others for a few years now and haven't ever heard of a check engine light being thrown because of an intake on any board

a lot of people modify that shit, extend, what ever to put it in the bottom where it will take in cold air, but that space it probably not water tight, so water gets in it, messes up the iat sensors, and check engine light turns on, but as long as nothing hazrdous gets into that filter, shouldn't throw a code.

i got a stupid friend once who put his intake, right next to the wheel well with the fender liner off, so basicallt the air filter was right next to the wheel itself, nexy couple days it rain, his engine sucked up a shitload of water, messed up his sensors, 300$ fix.

cold air intake is only good if water does not get to it, or if you drive in dry weather only, but that restriction isn;t worth the extra 5 hp you get, and thats if you get 5.
