wait a second, for the 2.2cl, I can use a 4th gen prelude short shifter? Dont you have the prelude tranny swapped in also?
And correct me if I am wrong but the 4th gen is like from 92-96 right?

yes the 92-96 prelude shifter will work in the cl 2.2/3...the tranny doesnt matter just as long as its manual..(i am using the f23 tranny)...
it is not a prelude short shifter..it is the stock shiftre off of a prelude. the ludes have the same problem as the cl's and accords where there is only an adapter...but to us the lude shifter is a short shifter it is shorter and it also makes the throw shorter

ok with just the prelude shifter there is a significant difference in the throw (ie. 1st to 2nd)..there is even more of a differnce with the adapter on....the distance from 1st to 2nd is now like 2inches before it was like 4inches

d98clturbo: Another question I found this site called www.hondapartx.com and they specialize in used salvaged parts for hondas obviously... I was searching for the shifter and some guy got back to me and told me he has a 93 shifter parts for 100.... do I only need the actual shifter "stick" or do I need the rest of the parts? (which I don't know what those are"

I can vouch for this. My car used to be auto and i used the shifter assembly from the 93 swap. Everyone comments on how low it sits and the throw is definately shorter than my buddies 5spd cl.

d98clturbo: sorry first of all I have no idea how the mechanics of the shifting mechanism works I was looking at this site about how to remove everything
http://www.pspectuning.com/tutorials/97-cl.php
but i am not sure what to do, and do I need special tools to modify the mounting plate? is this something on the medium difficulty side of the DIY?
thanks

it is very easy.......the "specia tool" is a hammer
in the link look at the pick where you can see the shifter and the whole assembly...you can see what looks kinda like bump stop or something (immediately behind and in front of the shifter) you will either have to get a tool to cut those off or do what i did 9just hammer it down as much as possible...those instruction are really good i couldnt have said it better

d98clturbo: ur a genius. That looks like some serious hammering. The guy wants 50 + 15 shipping for the shifter alone. Is that worth it? or not. Some other guy has the part I'll have to call him to get the quote from him. thanks. So if I just get the plain shifter stick I can swap the OEM internals into the prelude shifter just like that?

Big Block DOHC Type-R
Do you need to use the Prelude short shift adapter or can you use the Accord style one I allready have? Doesnt that pspec short shifter have an even shorter throw than the Prelude one, since it's ment to replace the Prelude one also? It sounds like a darn good idea though. I dont even know if the pspec one is worth the money you pay for it.

you can use all the stuff from the cl shifter...
i have the short shifter adapter for a lude as well (cant use the cl/accord one) the distance between 1st and 2nd is like 2 inches...
from what i have heard the pspec doesnt shorten the throw only the length of the stick....pspec not worth it IMO
that price isnt bad check ebay i remember seeing one a while back for like 15 plus shipping...the lude shifter is more worth it than the pspec

i was told that a really simple way to shorten the shifter is to get a tap and dye set (i think that's what it is called...forgive me if i am wrong) which can either make a thread on a smooth rod of metal, or make thread into a smooth hole...anyways, what you (supposedly) do is unsnap the boot, unscrew the knob, make the thread on the shifter go down as low as you want, hacksaw (yes, hacksaw...) the top of the shifter off to wherever you like, and screw the knob back on...apparently it has been done before because i also heard you're supposed to cut an empty milk jug in half, cut a hole in the bottom and position that around the shifter so metal shaving doesn't go all over your car..anyways, has anyone else heard of this? it seems like it could work..i dunno?
