i almost died!!

i was coming home from work at about 9PM heading northbound. and i was behind a dodge neon and the car ahead of him was a pickup truck with a mattress on the back. the mattress looked really unstable so i wanted to switch lanes and pass him... but when i was trying to change lanes, his mattress flew off went under the dodge neon then went under me! the bad part was the mattress dragged onto my bumper and caught on fire!!!! i quickly got off to the shoulder and pulled it out.. freakin burned me hecka times.. dang.. and after i pulled it out.. the cops came.. freakin slow bastards. anywho.. the truck got away.. and dont know what happened to the neon.. im just lucky i didnt flip over from hitting a mattress at that speed.. my car is still allright though! whew..

Glad you got lucky. I had a rather large sheet of plywood fly off a truck in front of me over the summer. I had to make a lane change in about .2 seconds gong ~65. The tires complained a bit, but the car handled well at that speed, and I avoided it without killing myself or my passenger. People need to tie shit down. I mean 5 minutes of laziness could kill somebody.

You dont usually tie something down with one knot, plus you have to actually secure it to something, 5 minutes is reasonable.

wow..scary....glad your OK!!!! ive had a close call myself....my moms friend back in college was killed because a mattress flew off the back of a truck and went through her windshield pinning her into the car while on the highway...

i however had a close call like yours on the highway once...i was in your same situation, car infront of me and then infront of him was a plumbing van with ladders on the top. One of the ladders came loose and flew (and i mean cought air!) off the top of the van...EVERYONE swerved!!! I was in the left lane and somehow found myself on the right shoulder down in the ditch....thank god i didnt hit anyone but man did i have to check my pants after that one...wow...lol.....

glad to hear your alright and safe....

freakin stupid people...you're all right!, if they'd take 5 min to tie down a ladder or mattress, people might actually be safe on the roads while driving!!

I had a few scares myself. both flying and on the road.

once i was driving on my way home from college, this POS in front of me blew out his tire and the thread came flying towards me. i had to slam on my brakes and swivel outa the way.

this other time i just got on the expressway to go back to college. not long after i got on the highway, i hit this bent and as i was coming around it on the fast lane, i saw a fucking bicycle and mattress in the middle of my lane!!!!! good thing i wasn't going too fast and that wasn't much traffic. i had just enough time to swivel outta the way. I called FHP to report it and it took a few minutes to get connected and told them about the bike and mattress, the woman told me that they already know about it. i'm just wondering how long they've known and if anyone ran into it.

the thread contains steel cables. imagine that going towards your windshield at a relative speed of over 100mph (it coming at me at over 40mph and me going at over 70mph)

it'll leave more than just a dent and black stuff on the car

Well now that we know your okay, how is your car??? Any damage? How's the bumper?

I too have had scary situations like this. The worst was when I was on the freeway going to college. I was going about 80 mph when all of a sudden I see a freaking tire (rim and tire) rolling over the center divider and coming straight at me. My first reaction was to change lanes, but I quickly stopped because I saw that the tire was wobbling and bouncing as it was rolling towards me. So I had to wait until the tire was about 10 feet infront of me and then quickly change lanes. I waited until the last possible minute because there was no way of knowing where the fuck that thing was going to bounce. That was the craziest shit I've ever experienced while driving! But good thing my CL has good handling, otherwise I would have lost control as I changed lanes so quickly going 80 mph. Another good thing was that there were no cars around me. The cars behind me were able to see me react, and quickly slowed down to avoid the tire.

i GOT AN ACCIDENT FOR YA!!!!

When I first got my civic in Arkansas I was driving back to KC, and this happened to me.

going 70 on the highway, hit a patch of uice, lost control of my car, went through a grass median...up and OVER a car in the oncoming traffic, and BAMMMMMMM...into a ditch. My brother backed it out, and we drove it home.

The funny part is that on spring break a few months later, I got rear ended at 55mph and puched under the car in front of me...car was totalled.

Damn!
I almost hit a metal frame from a bed that was in the road. Going about 75 and the car in front of me swerved at the last sec. to miss it. Don't know HOW I missed it. Thought I was dead!

Shit happens FAST!
