yeah you can do it yourself. should be a lot cheaper then going to a AC shop.

edit: for your question, I think that place charged me $75. that was on my old car though...never did it for this one yet.

i bought a large can of r134a for $20, on the can had a website that had video instructions. Couldnt be much easier. I'll get the website once i get home from work. I also recommend getting a charge kit with a gauge so you dont overcharge, which can be worse for the AC

You can do it yourself for a few bucks.

Instructions to recharge your A/C.

You would recharge on the Low side. On Honda/Acuras it typically looks like this:

If your AC has declined due to nornally expected losses through hoses and around the compressor shaft seal, a recharge can be done w/ low side gauge very crudely, and you may overcharge the system. Charge w/ engine running a steady 1500-2000 rpm and car in shade.

However, if the reduced AC performance is due to bugs on the condensor, a cooling fan not working, bad expansion valve, weak compressor, etc, you will not get good results w/ a low side charge gauge, and in fact could potentially damage the compressor (overcharge leading to opening of the relief valve which usually won't close completely once excess pressure is released).

BTW, you can't hook up the charge kit to the high side. The connector will only fit the low side connector.

good luck
