How do i turn off check engine ?

i was working on my car the other day and i unplugged a sensor that went to my distributor. i forgot to plug it back in and started the car. My check engine light turned on and i turned the car off and plugged in back in. How do i turn that check engine light off without disconnecting my battery since i dont have my radio code ?

actually, you need to remove both the ecu fuse AND the radio backup fuse. They are both lacated under the hood. No need to wait either, just pop em out and back in.

you do not need to remove any fuses, just remove the battery cable for lik 15-20 mins and you should be cool

he said he doesn't want to do it cuz he doesn't have the radio code.

also, what does the radio back up fuse has to do w/ the ecu?

just take out the ecu fuse for a few minutes. drive around after it goes off. if it comes back on again, time to see the mechanic

The ECU has two power sources. Ignition and Backup. Ignition is the ecu fuse and the radio back up fuse is the ecu's backup. if you don't remove the backup fuse it will still have the codes in memory.

the dealer is going to reset the code first before they start digging on anything. everything in my service manual says reset ecu, then if the problem goes away then it was an intermittant failure, and theres no problem. then they charge u 150$. and say they couldnt find anything.

Yeah seriously....if you know nothing's wrong just make sure you have the radio code and unhook the battery and fuses like others said for a few minutes. No sense wasting time and money at the dealer. Besides if something is wrong, it will come back on again anyway.

if you want to turn it off perminantly you take out your dash remove gauge pod and then remove the check engine light bulb... problem solved.
