i am looking to add some serious horsepower to my 97 cl 3.0 and not sure what i should go with. i don't want to add n2o but i still want to be able to blow away most. i have already disposed of a integra w/ gsr but i want to go bigger. up for any ideas.

if you want some serious hp and have the money i would drop a supercharger in, but no one that has it is willing to tear it up see power responses and overall performance of the supercharger. if you dont have much money i would buy, if you have a 2.2 or 2.3 , first swap out the engine to a h22a or h22, then cams, pulleys, cai, headers, exhaust, ecu upgrade, vafc, then if after that you still want more then i would go with a turbo setup, neidjb has a fmax turbo setup and his is pretty fast too if you have a 2.2/2.3, if you have a 3.0 i would look into dustbusters design for his 3.0. these are some of the main guys i would turn to for overall performance and guide into building a fast cl

yes... get a new car. or get ready to spend insane amounts of $$$$. If you want to beat most that is. Add a few bolt ons and some minor adjustmentsand you wont be the fastest car on the road, but you should be pleased with the results.

2.2/2.3 if ur budget is tight and ur not a tight ass on laws on modding cars...
1.)Header
2.)put in a straight pipe(drop the caty)
3.)change to 2.25" pipe after the cat or resonator
4.)3" CAI or Short ram
5.)Spark plugs/wires
6.)Get a decent muffler with a silencer so u don't attract cop attention
7.)UR or AEM pulleys
8.)Strip rear interior(Back seat, trunk carpeting, rear side panels, etc)
9.)Remove the condensor fan
thatz my setup right now... kills most 4cyl (Accords, Civics, Carollas, Camry,) it should be able to hang with a stock/lightly modded 3.0 for a while..

When you have money
10.)Lowering (Springs/Struts/Camber Kit)
11.)HID (reduce strains on alternator/ good if you have pullies)
12.)Light weight 17" rims / tires
13.)Turbo/Superchargers/H22 swap + Turbo

Don't listen to Cseika at all. 2.25 is like stock piping. a silencer on your muffler takes away sooo much power, plugs and wires do about nothing, and why the FUCK would you buy a CL if you wanted to gut/strip it!

I have a 2.3 5 speed w e/cai/h and it doesn't blow away everything, but i can stomp on just about any bolt on civic/ ls integ, and accord that i come across. If you want alot of power out of this car, the ONLY thing to do is h22 swap or F-max turbo kit. (since you don't want n2o, which i don't blame ya)

1.)Stock piping on a 2.2/2.3 is 2" going for anyihtng bigger than 2.25.. u won't have enough back pressure which will result in decrease of power unless u have turbo...

2.)Reason for a silencer... 1st of all to decrease the sound so cops don't stop u every other light and wants to see wutz modded on ur car... 2nd of all the silencer will give u alittle bit of back pressure if u got an oversized muffler(thatz cuz i have a 4" hayame muffler BTW.. BAD CHOICE get soemthing smaller!!)

3.)I Stripped what u don't need in order to be even a few lbs lighter but thatz totally up to u... gotta find the balance point between LUXURY/SPEED... For me, I never use the back seat... and don't care about all the sound dampening/carpet/board in the trunk so i got rid of it....

4.) I bought a CL for only a few grand off my relative.. and I'm just working with what I have according to my taste/style..

So itz up to u bnutzheels23...

Seriously, you need to go turbo, or a supercharger, or nitrous if you want to "blow away most".

Only after installing N2O, was I able to compete with and/or beat a good number of models.

BTW: I kill h22s without a problem! :P

Headers (OBX for the 98+ accord v6) w/ some slight modification.
Intake (AEM cold air is the preferred)
Exhaust (cat back, usually buy a univeral muffler then have it installed at a shop)
--Those are the basics, then you can get picky and add plugs (iridiums) wires, underdrive pulleys, and a V-AFC for tuning. But like everyone else said, serious power comes with NOS, Turbo, or supercharging. You'd be amazed at what just I, H, E would add. Wakes up the whole car. Good luck with it man and check out some of the different rides. Welcome to the board!
