Hit and run.

Gotta love highschool, eh? Came out to my car in a hurry, had a busy day planned, so I didn't look at my car as I got in, I just opened the handle blindly and said bye to my friend. After getting home, my mom brought my attention to the horror:

There's obviously been pleeeenty worse, but it definately still pissed me off. Hard to tell from the pics, but the entire side is dented in pretty bad, with scratches all on the trim piece and paint transfer (obviously). What pisses me off the most is that the only white car that parks in the area normally is a 2005 Mercedes C-Class who's spoiled as hell. I get to miss College Forensics tomorrow and watch the tape and stroll the lot looking for the car. I posted that if a person confesses, I'll drop charges, but no such luck. Hopefully the lot's cameras are good enough

Wow that sucks man. Hopefully the security tapes work out.

If someone ever hit my car and drove away, me filing charges would be the least of their worries...

Yep yep and yep. The dent is a lot bigger than it looks, but it seems to be one solid dent, not a bunch of scratches. I'm definately luckier than most, but it's still enough to piss me off. Good thing I'm pretty tight with the school cop, he's helpin out as much as he can.

Well, we took a look at the cameras today, and watched the car hit me, haha. Ran the plates and it's an old friend of mine, she confessed right when the cop came. Said she was scared because she knew I was a car guy, lmao. Anyway, the dad doesn't want to go through insurance, so I'm giving him two and only two options:
1) We go through insurance, I get everything back to normal.
2) We don't go through insurance, I go to the best body shop in St. Louis, and I get an entire paint job. Just to be sure I don't get screwed

Whatever happened to just paying to repair the damage? If he wants to pay for it out of pocket, instead of going through insurance, trying to get a full paint job is a bit much if you ask me, as long as the damage is fixed and matches, what difference does it make?

He has a very good point here aqua... trying to get a brand new paint job out of some guys pocket when he's just trying to avoid his daughters insurance raising is kind of a dick move.

They can match the paint, so there's no reason to shoot the whole car.

Well, I'm completely giving him the option of going through insurance and having it color matched. I've heard too many horror stories of a paint shop botching the job and then me being left with an insufficient check. Either it's fixed the correct way, through insurance, or it's done the expensive way. Completely up to him, and I'm also dropping the arrest charges, obviously. I'm trying to be as nice as possible with it, but my car is going to have to look as perfect as it did before for me to be happy.

dude, if your going to a really good shop they're not going to fuck up your paint. just make him pay for a really good shop. not a brand new paint job.

I second the just fixing the damage notion. Just get it to a good body shop and have them fix it. I took my car to a local body shop to paint one of my bumpers and it matches perfectly.

ehh, i went to one of the better ones in st. louis, and I (well, only me) can tell the difference. I'm 99% sure that color matching is the way it's gonna go, I'm simply leaving the option for him (what an idiot if he takes it), as this car is going to have to be done perfectly. The logic's a little odd and selfish, but it's what the reporting officer told me to do as well as what I see best. I'm simply not going to get screwed over, as this is 100% not my fault. The dad is incredibly nice, and even though the driver's a jerk, I'm gonna do everything I can to comprimise with him.

I'm sorry but if some high school kid told me i had to buy him a paint job on their 10 year old car for that scrape I would laugh at him and turn it into my insurance, I had some old woman try to get me for a paint job on her old ass ghetto hooptie for a way smaller scrape than that, and told my ins that she was trying to get a paint job, turned out it wasn't even worth her deductable

But you see, that's exactly what I'm trying to do. I'm not expecting them to pay for a new paint job, I'm using it to get them to go through insurance. I'm now a little okay with avoiding the insurance, but I'm for certain taking the car to the best shop I can find; I'm just trying to avoid someone from cheaping out on something that's not my fault; I'm not gonna be a prick and demand a new paint job, just using it as leverage

I understand your point and agree with it. I'm using the "new paint job" threat simply to make sure the job is done right. Trust me, I will not be getting an entirely new paint scheme out of this, even if I decided to be a jerk and tried to fight for it. It's just not gonna happen.

Last month, my sister tapped a Saturn from behind at a light. It scraped the woman's bumper a little. She was really nice about it, and agreed to let us take care of it rather than our insurance. Once her husband found out, he insisted that the bodyshops wanted close to $1000 to replace/paint her back bumper. We had no choice but to give it to our insurance. It was a dick move on his part similar to what you're trying to pull.

He's asking to take care of it without involving insurance because he doesnt want his rates to get JACKED UP for 3 years over a claim. I get that you want the job to be done right, but the insurance company isn't going to pay to have your whole car painted, and if this guy has half a brain, he isn't either. Whether he pays or the insurance does, if you're planning on getting it fixed by one of the best body shops around, I'm sure they'll be more than willing to give you a satisfaction guarantee.

Society is completely fucked up with people pulling shit like what you're doin to this guy. So his daughter scraped your car, and you're SO GENEROUS "cutting him a break by dropping charges" then at the same time trying to get extra cash out of him? I'm pretty sure this could be called extortion.

Last update, just to clear everything =) We're not going through insurance, but I'm being sure that I get a fairly decent shop. Damage is not ridiculous, so I'm in no way planning on being a prick about it. Girl gave a full apology, she's in so much **** with her parents I actually feel more sorry for her than me. Should all be settled well, I turned out pretty lucky that they had cameras. Just found a hole in my radiator, so I'm in every way more pissed about that than the accident, go figure.

Save your breathe, this issue's already been addressed, I'm simply making him pay damages. Thanks for reading though, and btw it's not exactly a dick move to try and follow the lawful way of processing an accident after THEY hit and ran. It def. would've been a prick move to try and pull a full paint job out of this, but my offering that ultimatim was me just blowing steam, I'm in no way pursuing that.

hahaha, that was my original desire, but it's just out of line after seriously thinking about the situation and being...straightened out. She's offered to pay and garuntee that it'll be done right, so that's good enough for me. And btw, I was thinking anthracite or the gunmetal from a G35

And you say you are in high school? You got a pretty good head on your shoulders. Good job handling this the way it should be handled!

The only advice I have is to get whatever is decided upon in writing and get their insurance and drivers license info just in case.

As far as paint, stay the original color. That color looks absolutely amazing with those rims and on the first gens in general. Spend the extra money elsewhere on something to make the car more exhilerating to drive... like an H-Swap or turbo or suspension upgrades!

Oh, and if you must paint it, go pearl white from the new lexus lines and get your rims powdercoated black!
