so last week i was mobbing on a back country road, and i thought it was all good, and i made a quick check in the rear view mirror to check for cops, and nothing but all of a sudden i hit a bump that i didnt see comin, and i bottomed out pretty bad. I checked it all out and i didnt think anything was wrong, but i noticed that if i under rev like while im letting go of the clutch that there is a rattle from underneath.

so i think, ok i just knocked a cover or something loose and its rattling. But then last night i was driving down the road and my check engine light came on(first time ive had a problem with my car since i got it!!) . my question is, can the light have something to do with my bottoming out? Like if there is an exhaust leak, or something along those lines to trigger the light? after work im goin to get it scanned so i guess we will see, but for now some expertice would be nice!

Sounds like you bottomed out your downpipe or cat, check for exhaust leaks

 

Maybe things got bust-up inside your cat - or the o2 sensor bit the dust. OBDII scan + inspection soon???

 

You could've knocked the cat loose.

Or knocked something else in the exhaust system loose.

 

well its been almost 2 weeks, it rattled before the light came on, i wasnt thinkin and i unhooked my battery the day that i was goin to get it checked, and so i reset the ecu, and ive driven the car about 1000 miles and the check light hasnt come back on. It still rattles but no light, im sure its somethin like the cat or exhaust related.
