OK LADIES AND GENTLEMAN....of the forum....ill start off by saying i love my acura....after some problems....new tranny radiator and other things its fine now and i love it...ive started to mod it and want to do more...BUT today i was with my friends who have EVOS....STI'S......GSX, GST....AND so on and so forth...none of them were bought by parents and they are all hard working guys...well the one GSX owner came up to me and said 8,000 obo for his car....or trade and he was like ill trade you take some payments over and i wa slike ok ill think about it and talk to the parents and all that and get back to you on that one....WHAT SHOULD I DO....just to let you know this car is 450 whp and built and no problems and not beat to bad....WHAT SHOULD I DO PEOPLE....HELP ME

i used to push a 1st gen eclipse (i assume u meen an eclipse gsx) and I upgraded to this car a few mos ago. The interior falls apart on those cars because it is ALL plastic and not well engineered like our cars are. The engine and mechanicals of the car were great but it was simply falling apart inside even though I took great care of it. Also the backseat is terrible, trunk is much smaller, car is significantly less respectable, and is in fact the most rice related car in America after mabey the Civic.

 

if its a convertible or you have the 2.2/2.3 thats the only way I would consider it.

 

what year GSX? reason being is if its got the 4g63 motor it probably has crankwalk and thats why he's looking to dump it. I use to have a 96 GSX and that damn car was nothing but problems. I actually traded it in for the CL and have been 200% happier with a reliable car!!

I did, the GSX had 375WHP when i bought it and was one of the best cars to drive but then the tranny seals went bad, then clutch, then the tranny turned to butter one night on the expressway. Then the radiator leaked. Hmm keep going you ask? Master clutch cylinder went out, then the sunroof didnt close (still have the glass if anybody needs it)

So trust me, DSM = Eclipse is NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. And do yourself a favor and search this on google. Keyword "DSM CRANKWALK" and I guarantee you wont want it after you read up on it.

 

Listen to what you said....450WHP and not beat?? WOuld you put 450HP in a car to drive it like your grandma? That thing has been beat to shit but everytime somebody wants to sell something its "good as new" no problems, there never is...

 

Don't forget, Mitzubishi made the ZERO! The suicide jap death trap. Those cars do fall apart inside. My friend has a 1st gen Eclipse GS and its interior is horrible. THe passenger airbag cover is pealing up, there are cracks in the dash, the headliner is falling down, the paint is for shit, the brakes and motor are dying... DON"T DO IT.

 

Your only asking for problems buying a modded car. You have NO IDEA what has been done to it. Never buy someone elses problem.
I would just hate for you to get that car and it work fine for a couple weeks, or even a couple months. THen shit just starts breaking. Your assed out with no car.
My friend has a 8-9 sec talon tsi. He has gone through 4-5 trannies, 2 of which were JDM evo trannies. Lets just say that the car has sat in his garage more than it has been on the road.

you have your 2nd tranny, you're good to go now. Don't trade it off for a modded up car, that you'll probably have nothing but probs with. You don't know what was done to it, or what wasn't done to it. There could be more problems than good. Like others said, he's probly tryin to trade it off for a reliable car, cuz our guess is it isn't reliable, course we don't know, but why would he trade off his 450HP car and take over payments for yours? Cuz it's reliable. You trade it, and I'll take off work, come to best buy, and bith slap you

alright guys thanks for the input...still thinking bout it but yea as the one guy said i do have a 2.3 AUTO...first auto of my life and i hate it...but i love the car...it has problems but so does every car other than new ones. today we traded cars and i drove his for a day and he didnt drive mine so i was happy...but i still dont know and am in no rush

 

450HP + eclipse = still an eclipse. :theghey:

u gotta realized though take us with a grain of salt because everyone in the eclipse forum would say "trade it!" ;-)

 

Dood in the end its your decision but i can guarantee you if you trade that car you'll realize why everybody hates dsm's. I bought mine for 5k and spent another 5k in repairs in just 4 months......so become very friendly with a mechanic fast.

Even eclipse owners will tell ya not to do it, the only eclipse worth buying is a non turbo, but then its just gay.


do this test.....Push the clutch pedal in and listen by the drivers side front tire well. If you hear a ticking noise when you hit the clutch thats your first sign of crankwalk.....And lets just leave it at this..If you have crankwalk, what it does is it throws the crank off slightly and well....starts walking slowly away from factory position..(hense the name crankwalk) then starts spinning rods and basicly throws the engine completely off and after it hits you can either drop a new motor in and hope that doesnt have crankwalk (unless go 7 bolt) or pay a mechanic 5k to fix yours and hope it doesnt strike again. But thats just the major problem with the car....lets not get into everything else that dsms have go wrong..

 

this about sums up my dsm experience....this is downtown chicago after my tranny turned to butter.


if ya do buy it i got some parts for ya though, lol turbo timers, and sway ars, few misc crap

I will say one thing though, they are nice lil cars to throw around if it wasnt for the problems. oh and btw AWD makes any repair $500 more instantly, so get use to it

Its a wonderful car to drive for a day, im sure. but in the end, the cl is more classy (in my opinion) and more reliable. 450 whp and awd sounds like sex though

its funny but i didn't think about it when i got my eclipse at age 16, but a few times since then when I had "opportunities" on road trips i started realizing why that is a kids / chick's car. A mod I would love to see? Convert our center console to a flush, making the front more bench like. You know what I'm talkin about!

 

HAHA....nice uhhh comments...well no it wasnt an auto man....like i said this car was my first and last auto....and i have convinced my dad to let me get the mitsu.....HAHAHA KIDDING...no ive convinced my dad to take the warranty off so i can do stuff to the cl...which means taking out the damn auto...and i know its going to be alot but i love the car and its worth it...probably going to go h22 or something idk yet but yea...in the end it will have some sort of forced induction...and yea the STi black with gold flaking paint....
