Headers

so what exactly is the difference between stainless steel and ceramic coated headers?

ive been looking at some OBX headers for my 2.3, and they have a stainless steel version and ceramic coated version.

Ceramic are better for performance, but stainless lasts much longer

Seriously, search... but if you really want to know the difference, even with the ceramic coating having a one year warranty, you will see them peel before that and THAT DEFINATLY ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. They will only replace if you have a gaping hole in your header, and that my friend, would really just suck. If you are going to get the OBX headers, at least spend the money to get the Stainless steel ones...

Ive had the OBX ceramic header for almost 2 years now. No cracking, peeling or anything. The stainless ones look nice the day you buy them, but once you start to drive, they turn bluish purple and really look like shit. Im gonna have to reccomend the ceramics, but thats just my opinion. Also, I wouldnt spend the extra 200 bucks on the DC header, they all do the same thing, but the OBX is a lot less. Got mine brand new for 110 bucks on ebay, the DC goes for at least 300.

Is this fact or opinion?

I want a header for my girl's car, but not sure if "big name" brands would make a difference than the ebay lower priced stuff!?

they claim that they do but it is not true. Friend has a built b16 with some off brand headers 4-2-1 and thought the same thing and bought some nuespeed headers and was greatly pissed off because no difference. Sold both of them and bought a 4-1 header, forgot the name but he said that he notices a little difference. if you got the money find a 4-1 header if not but a cheap one

Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt buy no-name stuff, but OBX is pretty well known and the prices are pretty good anywhere u go. Just remember the old saying that you get what you pay for. If you spend 50 bucks on a header, your gonna get a header that is made of 10 bucks worth of scrap metal.

it really depends on what style you want. the ceramic coated headers are supposed to dissipate heat better, but the stainless ones are supposed to be more durable. if you want the best of both worlds you could always thrermo-wrap stainless headers.

in all reality, you're not really going to feel a difference in a 4cyl CL tho.

or you could always get some stainless steel OBX headers, and just get them jet-hot coated for an extra $200. This prevents the piping from getting really hot and keeps the engine compartment relatively cool compared to normal driving. not to mention it moves the air faster and lets the catalytic converter reach nominal operating temps quicker.

Also, I think DC just came out with a new type of header. I think its brushed stainless, but Im not sure if they have our application. Then again, they cost like 300+ so I dont know if they are worth it. the header helps a little when you open throttle it, it seems to let each gear run longer than stock, but there is no noticeable power gain. It looks good though.

Good price. What other mods do you have done so far? I have intake and the header installed at once, so i wanna see how the header feels with the stock intake.

well, i have the AEM CAI sitting around at home (havent installed yet) and Ive got the headers coming in now. I'll also be ordering some pulleys soon too (though not sure which yet Megan or UR... i was reading the world war thread that was opened further down the forum )

I also plan on buying an exhaust too (not sure if I'll get a 2.25 magnaflow axleback and get custom piping thx to nitelite) or if I'll just go buy a whole cat.

sorry for hijacking the header thread... so i'll send it back in the header direction:

I'd much rather go for durability than performance, especially since it wouldnt matter with my 4 banger - it's slow as shiAt unless I swap an h22 in it

Does that go for the intake as well?

I'm sure the header don't do much, but just to get whatever we can outta that thing. My girl sure misses her 99' Maxima SE(5spd). This 2.3 don't come close to comparing, but we'll work with it.

Thanks for the info guys.

well, your video convinced me shiney. I just ordered the 14805 today from magnaflow, and i'll be looking for somewhere in the Miami area to do the custom piping for me.

Yeah, I feel bad too. The CL's movin' up though. I'm trying to help her as much as I can while still trying to mod my GS-T at the same time. Her new pearl white paint job is coming soon, with hopefully an intake and the header mod...oh, and her springs also. The car already came with a Magnaflow exhaust and WW front lip.
She likes the car, she just wants more power!
