header gaskets

alrite i have the obx stainless steel headers for the 2.2 and i keep blowing the gasket that is between the header and the downpipe!! the obx gasket was crap so i replaced it with a headman headers one which i also blew. i was just wondering if this could be caused by too much back pressure b/c i still have the stock cat on.

any help is appreciated

Are you using the right torque specs?

How do you blow the gasket on the exhaust manifold? Was it just shitty material and deteriorated? I've had my obx gasket since back in 03 and never had a problem.

its the gasket between the header and downpipe, not the manifold gasket. i just got a copper gasket so hopefully that one wont go. i still need to kno the correct torque specs though. anyone kno them?

The correct torque specs are:
- Exhaust manifold self-locking nut (header to manifold): 23 Ft.Lbs / 31 Nm
- Shroud bolts (heatshield): 16 ft.lbs / 22 N.m
- Exhaust pipe flange nuts (pipe to cat, cat to pipes, etc.): 40 ft.lbs / 54 N.m
- Flexplate bolts: 54 ft.lbs / 73 N.m

no... your both wrong. it is triangular, with the two exhaust holes and the three bolt holes. obx still hasnt returned my email > but i replaced my old gasket with a new pacesetter copper gasket and so far no leaks. woot! hopefully it stays this way. i just tightened the bolts till they were real snug.
